which 700 rail?

Gunnewb gets a 700 LTR and doesnt know where to start.....

Titanium, aluminum, steel.....

Its going on an LTR so I dont wanna cheap out and its also gonna take a beating as I have 2 scopes Ill be swapping on and off this thing. any suggestions folks?

20 moa seems to be the standard- wise move? if I have 90 moa adjustment total on my optic?
 
I have a NEAR MFG. 20 MOA base which is very high quality.

Not cheap at all, but probably the best you can buy. Others will be very close though, and should hold up fine. I'd personally go steel if you're gonna be changing out optics all the time. Less chance of deforming the rail than with aluminum.

If you're looking to cut weight why not go with aluminum for both? I have an aluminum Weaver tactical rail and have no complaints. As for swapping scopes back and forth, I would think you would have to do it an awful lot to do any damage to a rail. My $0.02.
 
Aluminum and steel work just fine together. I choose steel as I'm not particularly nice to my rifles in the bush and the last thing I need to worry about out is if my scope is knocked out of if it were to drop it. My suggestion it to "buy once, cry once". It's taken me a long time to learn that but over the years I've learned that if you buy quality parts you will save money (and headaches) in the long run. My set up has a Farrell base (steel) with Larue rings (steel). Going aluminum isn't really going to save a lot on weight but it will be a bit lighter.

I would stay away from non picatinny rails, Farrell bases are not picatinny. Makes changing scopes from rifle to rifle easier.
 
Near Mfg, I wouldn't go any further. I have used Richard's base on a Rem 700, TRG 22 and used one his brakes for the TRG 22. Top notch stuff and customer svc second to none. Plus it's CDN made.

No they don't. Try setting a picatinny riser on a Farrell base, or a Near Alpha-Mount ring set. Farrell bases will accept single cross bolt pic. accessories but not double cross bolt.

Near Alpha-mounts, Brownell riser blocks, Shehane tapered risers will not bolt up to Farrell bases. They will bolt up to RPA, Eliseo, EGW, ATRS, Badger, Near etc. I can take a scope in rings off an RPA rail and attach it to an Eliseo rail without moving rings. Maybe Farrell smartened up and started making picatinny rails, but I have a few that aren't. I didn't bother to measure or check what the problem was just removed the base.
