which 7mm...?

Nothing, just Remington's name games. It's also known as the 7mm Express.

actually, the true 7mm/06 will have a .05" shorter headspace than the 280.....

re: :7mm Mag ballistics from a 284 case..."

how do you get 7mm Mag ballistics out of a case that holds about 10 grs less powder....?

I've had 7 Rem Mags do 3350 with a 140, can't see that out of a 284....

Just to be the odd duck how about a 7x61 S&H?
I don't think it offers anything over a 7 Rem Mag but it's way cooler:D

My dad has an old Schultz & Larsen in this caliber.

I'm thinking of getting a 700 done in the 7x61, just to be different of course.;)

7x64? lol

funny you should mention that one because the barrel is currently chambered in 7x64 and threaded for a Mauser, although it has never been installed. It has enough shank to remove the Mauser thread and rethread for the 700 leaving the length at 22-1/4"

I think it'll be a standard 280, then maybe I'll put my 24" stainless 7-08 factory barrel into the short action.....

If it is already chambered for it just make your 700 threads appear on it and put back in place. One thing you could do if selling it anyway is offer it for sale and let the winning bidder choose which cal they want from your selection.

The 280 is a great pick of the bunch.

Just because Noel mentioned the 7 x 64 I have to mention that I once saw a rack of Model 700 Mountain Rifles in 7 X 64....with open sights, yet. Sure wish I'd bought one, the price at the time (1992) was 770 Deutschmarks, about $500.00 Cdn. Sigh......
That round does have a certain cachet.

Gentlemen, I have to go with Noel on this one, 7x64 Brenneke...but NOT on a Remington !

You have a barrel threaded for a large ring Mauser, chambered in 7x64 Brenneke, and you are changing it to fit a Remington....are you mad....beg, borrow or steal a suitable large ring Mauser and do the job properly.

As an aside, for a Remington it should be .280 rem only, for the rule of thumb is;
US action...US cartridge.
Euro action...Euro cartridge.
After all, you would not chamber a Ross in a modern short magnum...would you ?
