I am a 1911 45 ACP guy. I've been shooting it since I was 14 and I am 40 now. I was looking to try out production for IPSC after being in standard for a few years. I'ved brought down my choices to two finalists, the CZ-85 or an SA-XD. Now I need everyones feed back on this tight dilema. Which one??

Both are excellent pistols. Have you had a chance to test fire either? How do they fit your hand/shooting style?

Since you are a 1911 guy, have you consider the Para LDA P18?

I have tried then both and the two fit well my hands well. I found the SA-XD easier to shoot faster. The reason I am not going 1911 for production is for change. I different gun to master will be the fun challenge.

Close your eyes and lift each of those pistols to the shooting position. See which one points more intuitively. You have already trained your forearm musculature to "aim" the 1911. You don't want a pistol that substantially alters your trained "pointing".

I shoot an STI and a CZ 75.

if you'll be buying a CZ, buy an SP01, price difference is minimal, and the difference in quality and design is huge.

Frankly, I don't know how other's feedback will help you in your decision. CZ shooters are going to tell you the 85 is better and XD shooters are voting for their pistols. :)

One thing you might want to taking into consideration while you're "shopping" is that with the CZ you would need to decock it manually.

Big time.

ever think about getting an Para LDA.

due to the sheer number of problems I've seen with the XD I'd go with the CZ.

I think you have answered your own question. The biggest hurdle I believe you will face with the XD is getting by the trigger difference <from a 1911>.
I have a CZ-85 and a couple of XDs. I don't think you would be serviced poorly by either of those. You could also look at the Tanfuglyo.;)

only if you choose not to get a model with a decocker.

A better statement would be that with a CZ you'll have both a DA and a SA trigger pull, and with the XD you'll have only one. Personally I don't care about the SA/DA transition, I don't notice it, but I know a lot of people who grew up on their 1lb Std/Open guns go nuts with the two trigger pulls, and come running to the likes of Glock and XD...

have you played with a g-17 yet? I shoot a 1911 the majority of the time and have no problem using a glock when I shoot production. Glocks have been used to win 2 of our 4 production titles and Dave Sevigny just put an end to The Great One's 6 USPSA Limited Championships streak with his glock.
