Which Anschutz

Did someone had a talk with one of their representative about that issue? I mean, they should be aware, right? What did they say about this?

IIRC Anschutz' standard answer was: yank the bolt harder. It doesn't work, and it's not a fix.

This has been on the ##### list at Rimfire Central for ages and TMR Anschutz has been contacted multiple times. There are tutorials on the web where intrepid riflemen with small files have attempted to cure the problem, as per M70-338's post.

Please understand that I am a huge Anschutz fan and love the rifles dearly, but this issue makes me question the reliability of their sporters when taking small game. Jams at matches cause frustration and probably hurt scores with the distraction, but small game deserve a reliable second shot to end any possible suffering. Fiddling with spent cases trapped in the action while game suffers or runs off is a possibility I don't like, even though the first shot may do the job 99% of the time.

Even the 1907R that you purchased from me was totally unreliable, before I tuned the extractor. It didn't take much tuning to fix it, but it shouldn't have required any tuning. I haven't tested my new 1712 yet, but I hope that I don't need to tune it as well. The problem is so prevalent, that I keep spare parts on hand.

I'm not surprised, and I'm glad you did the tweaking. :) I really like that rifle!! Annie 64s and 54s, match and sporter grade rifles all seem susceptible to the problem. Curiously, I have a .17 HMR that throws cases with gusto. It was a delightful surprise.

To the OP: Don't let any of this banter scare you off getting an Annie. They are head and shoulders above anything you can do with a 10/22 and once you own one, you will understand why. There simply isn't much on the market that can compete with these rifles.

Thanks for all the replies to this post. I made my choice and now am the owner of a 64 mpr. I have yet to shoot it as I just purchased it today. I returned from vacation with my wife and I needed something for valentines day. What else can make your other half more happy than to see her husband smile, so I bought myself a new 22. Boy did I smile a lot. Am I the greatest husband or what? She was there for the purchase and when it was time for the payment she looked at me and said "I don't even what to know how much, I'll be in the truck". Isn't she the greatest wife? What a great day.

Be sure to post some pics of your rig. Hope it does well for you. I have an old Anschutz 190 that goes gopher hunting once in a while. It did well with a Weaver V24, now wears a Mueller 8-32 target. My 64 series CIL Anschutz 310 has never let me down in the accuracy dept. either.

Ordered today the vortex HS T and sig. z rings from site sponsor. I will post pics when I get them and have them mounted. I can't wait.

That's awesome! Welcome to the Anschutz brotherhood!

I've been tossing around the idea of getting an anschutz for the same reason.
The only difference between the 64 sporter target, 64 sporter benchrest and MPR are the stocks?
I have not seen a dealer online with the MPR listed.

If you wanted a heavy barrel and 54 action the only model is the 1913?

Here we go, as promised.
The target was shot at 50 yards in the farm field behind the house off plywood sitting on two saw horses sitting on a 5 gallon pail. I can't wait to get to a good bench. That is a dime sitting next to the group. No the dime is not sitting over any hits.

This is my mpr, there are many like it but this one is mine. The scope is a 4-16 Vortex HS-T milrad mounted in high Z rings on a 20moa mount given to me by a friend.

This is a ten shot group. The first couple rounds on the 0 target were a surprise to me when the trigger broke. This is the lightest trigger I have shot to date. The trigger on this thing is nothing short of amazing.

Lookin' good. Only one target though? Any ejection issues? A solid bench will make a big difference to the groups as you become familiar with your new prize. Keep posting.

I shot another target getting the scope on 0. It has shots all over. I shot this 10 shot group after I set 0. I did have one empty that sat in the breach after I opened the bolt and I did not open the bolt at a normal speed. I didn't have to crank the bolt open just what I would describe as normal manipulation you would use on any rifle of same design. I have to say, the ejection issue others describe was not found with my rifle.

I'm embarrassed to say the ammo was Winchester Wildcat. It's what I had around that was not copper jacketed. I haven't got around to get samples of good ammo yet to find out what the gun will like the best nor have I shot it since that target was shot.
As far as the rail. I don't know. A good friend of mine who has a 1710 54 action had two of them and gave me one. Strong accent on the gave, I couldn't guilt him into taking anything for it. Having said that I do owe him and have not forgotten his generosity.

Beautiful rifle OP!

I am on the edge of buying my first Anschutz as well. I was looking at the 64 Sporter Benchrest, but I am uncertain if I can get an accessory rail on that model; and I love the look of your rifle! If I may ask, where did you buy yours?

fantastic rifle OP!!
and i am so glad that there were no serious ejection issues with yours to date. sometimes different ammo ejects differently, i would imagine it has to do with the thickness of the rim of the ammo and how consistent that measurement is form round to round

i really appreciate your photo's and comments as i have been in contact with Nordic marksman about cost/features and all that sutuf of a 64MP R. i like to shoot metallic silhouette and also 100yd benchrest. i have rifles for each because i just love 22's, however the idea of maybe getting strong enough to heft the MP R for silhouette and using the same riffle and trigger for most most my sport play competition would be a good thing.

i have a really nice old browning b-78 in 243 that i think should be "transformed" into one of these Anshutz's as i am sure the trigger will be pulled ever so much more than the 243! also, i guess it is about time to own and shoot something from across the water. my preferences are so strongly north Americana rifleman stuff that the idea of taking that money "away" from a potential Win 52 and dropping it on an 'Annie" is pretty hard to swallow.

that's my story and why i am following this good thread with interest........ good shootin y'all!

Here is my 1416 dhb:

Some of the things I've learned about the rifle:

Shoot lead bullets only - I was told by the vendor to shoot standard velocity lead bullets only. No copper.

The rifle really likes match ammo! - but my pocket book can't afford my vanity, so I've learned that CCI Standard Velocity works great (but has been hen's teeth of late). Lapua Standard Plus is as good, and Ely Practice was ok too.

Changing between ammo requires a couple of magazines through the barrel before the groups settle down.

It stovepipes occasionally, but I've learned to just tip the action when it occurs.

This rifle will be in my possession until my last breath, then it will be passed onto my daughter.

I bought a 64 MPR recently. Made about 4 serious range sessions (bench rest) with it so far. I love it. very accurate and no ejection issues at all. Though I use a single shot adaptor and hand feed it every round as you should do to avoid shaving the bullet's head by magazine feeding. I use match ammo and though pricy, it is the only way to get real accuracy in my book.
