Which AR Caliber is more Accurate???

5.56/.223 is proven more accurate in static ballistics tests than 7.62x39. However the 7.62 has better penetration and impact power. 5.56 has better flatter tajectory and higher velocity. Both calibers are good, but each serves a slightly different purpose than the other.

I honestly like the 5.56 better. If you have a barrel with a high twist rate, all you would need is a cartridge with 80+ grains to gain better penetration performance to somewhat match the 7.62. Of course it'll always be a heavier round, but there is quite a lot more to the engineering side of ammunition in which can shift the purpose/role of the cartridge.

For accuracy -- it is entirely possible to get factory 5.56mm ammo that is sub-moa, far more than 7.62x39.

Far better quality compenents and information are out there for reloading .223/5.56mm and much better magazines and barrels as well.

I own several .223 AR's and am able to get awesome accuracy from them. I agree with some of the comments - 4 MOA, thats a bit crude. With a reasonable barrel and good ammo, 1/2 MOA at 100 is very possible from a 223 AR.

As for 7.62 x 39. Ballistically I dont think it would hold much on .223 with a match bullet. Beyond 300 yards I think it would bleed way to much energy. Would love to compete against one and would be confindent the 223 would be way better.

Hope that helps.
