Which AR do swat teams use

Depends on the team and location but in Canada many teams use the Diemaco/Colt Canada guns, I noticed quite a few subdued patch guys the other day with Charlie 8s...

Alot use what ever they get the best deal on, Some use Bushmasters some use Colt's Not to sure about other companyies let me find the transcanada firearm survey and i'll be able to tell you for sure which are used in canada. Some teams IE hamilton use non ARS they have STYER AUGs and Niagra have HKG36C's

Standby I'll have the final answer in a couple hours just have to find the survey...

So i checked the survey (keep in mind this is just from police services who responded so not all are included) looks like if i am not mistaken Brokville use Busmasters (not sure if they have a full time tac unit or not) maybe someone else would have more info than I?
And apparently Saanich rock the G36 as well as Niagra and Halifax have P90's pretty cool I think other than that everyone else have Colts and or Colt Canada's and Diemacos. Alot of these that are C8's say they are the CQB Varient how ever a couple are just listed as A2's

don't forget armalite, wolverine sold lots to LEO in canada.... the problem is that colt canada will sell the LEO an M4 style gun for about half of what any other dealer can, just so they can corner the market.

pretty much C8s with 12.5" or 14.5" barrels... there are a smattering of HK g36s and other brands, but it's mostly Colts in Canada. Armalites are not in vogue anymore as they had poor QC. i know that Edmonton PS has gone away from Armalites for patrol rifles and their TAC team. Calgary PS has also relegated their Armalites to Simunition guns due to reliability issues.

Yes, Lots of Tactical units... if not all Carry Mp5's however it is in a different class to the ARs carried by them, most carry the Mp5 as a CQB/ entry weapon due to its 9mm calibre and limited range, (however beeing a closed bolt sub machine gun is very accurate and reliable at close range) and the Ar to be a more intermediate range weapon for perimiter containment etc. Not even getting into sniper/ spotter weapons, different less leathal options as well. But I dont think there would be too many (if any) police services soley useing Mp5's or one of the .556's mentioned thru-out this thread.

Barrie's ERT was using bushy's.. I'm assuming that you are asking about any ERT, SRU, SRT, CIRT, TRU or TRT unit...

In Quebec the GTI uses MP5s. I was fortunate enough to see them in training at my range last year. I talked to one of the snipers and he was kind enough to show me all their gear and weapons... sadly no ARs...

Unfortunately - No they don't. They have a healthy profit margin built into every gun they sell. Don't kid yourself. That margin gets tighter with large orders just like they would be a Civilian Dealer.

Boltgun

Somewhere on here there is a list and exact makes and how many of each type of pistol and rifle and shotgun the police, OPP, and RCMP are currently using. I read it a while back tried to search for it but cant seem to find it either.

There is a variety of long weapons used and some of you would be surprised. The MP5 is still very popular and proven. Contrary to previous posts the RCMP is not shelving the MP5, far from it. Anyone who say's differently is not in the "know" and is speculating. The MP5 is limited in some ways and most teams have a combination of MP5's and 5.56mm carbines. A few Services have gone straight to 5.56mm weapons only. (Examples are; The Calgary Polcie Service and The Medicine Hat Police Service Tactical Units.)

The dominant weapon is the Colt Canada CQB or the C8. Outstanding weapon and very reliable. Armalites are still in use but have a terrible reputation and are hated by many Services. Three Services I know will never buy another Armalite and only purchase Colt Canada now.
HK G36's are used by quite a few and doing well with the primary complaints being the factory sights / scopes.
Swiss Arms / Sig is also in use by a few.
Old Colt M16's, Uzi's, Steyr Augs, Ruger AC556 and Mini 14's, HK 33's and HK 53's, just to name a few.
HK 416's are now also in use.
As stated before, Colt Canada has gone after the Canadian Police market very, very aggressively and attempted to under bid everyone. I'm sure they still make a profit but It's got to be slim with some of the prices they are offering.

There are some FN P90's in use as well (MUC in Quebec).

Rich

P.S. I wouldn't trade my issued Swiss Arms for any of the others and I've tried, carried, trained with and been issued quite a few.
