Which barrel to keep, and which to cut

i got the magnum gobble dot, took some work to get it on since its the wrong size for my bead, but I had it from another shotgun.. once tight it hasnt moved.. kinda tall, but shoots point of aim at 50 yards so i cant complain.

ive redone a few stocks with tru oil and its pretty easy and looks good once done

enjoy the shotgun

The height of those sights was a concern for me, appreciate you pointing that out. I think considering the short barrel is mainly for a fast handling short barrel backwoods truck/camping/canoe gun, ill probably just reinstall the fiber optic bead it has back on it.
And I'll probably be keeping the modified choke full length, and cutting the vented rib. The modified seems more versatile for most hunting situations, especially if steel shot is being used. And its almost 6oz lighter than the vent rib, just handles a lot nicer and has better balance.

I'll certainly be waiting to cut anything until after I've printed both barrels with a few different loads.

Well, I did the deed. I was a weenie and cut the vent rib barrel down to 20". The modified choke barrel patterned really well, and Im going to just re-install the original fibre optic bead on the short barrel. Its easier to intall it onto the rib compared to the round barrel without having to grind protruding threads from inside the barrel, and there is no risk of it being canted. It also gives me the option of easily installing rib mounted sights if I want later on. Very happy with how it handles. I did the initial cut with a hacksaw and used a square, files and paper to fuss around until it was table flat and squared off. Very lightly chamfered the bore to remove any burrs and hit it with oxpho blue. Passes the Q-tip test.
Just waiting for a #6-48 tap i ordered to get here to put the bead back on.

Decided to just leave the wood as is. Might play with some nitro spray lacquer to fix up the spots where the finish is worn off, but not going to bother sanding down and refinishing. I really like the dark wood look of the original finish. Besides the chop, I want to keep it original as it is, scratches and all.

The bottoming tap arrived yesterday and I finally managed to reinstall the bead on the cut barrel.
I'll admit, it's lost a bit of it's brightness, but so have I. Infact this shotgun and I were born just a few months apart! It's still more visible than a brass bead and I like that it's original to the barrel. I didn't really want to totally bastardize this thing. She points very fast and intuitively, I like it. That's all that matters.
