Which black guns were banned in 1995?

So if I don't have 12(6) I cannot inherite short bar. modern handguns?? Thats what I am learning here...What about the 'As a General rule' statement? Could there be an exception I wonder?

That's exactly right. You could inherit a 1942 4" Luger, but not a 1972 4" Smith & Wesson M39. No exceptions that I'm aware of.

hmmm. that is pretty much the worst thing I have learned in a while. So you guys are saying they would have to be surrendered? I am talking about a very sizable collection worth tens of thousands of $$ and priceless sentimental value. I am going to pose the question in a seperate thread to see if anyone has any first hand experience/knowledge.

knowledge can be a bit*h sometimes!!!

Wrong-You would just have to replace the barrel to a barrel with an OAL of 106mm or longer and turn in the old barrel to the RCMP as it is a prohibited device, then the firearm would be reclassified to restricted handgun status upon completion and verification of work preformed by a qualified Gunsmith. However be prepared to spend $$$.

Wait until the CPC has some time in office and there may be some changes made. However I would contact your nearest CPC MP and express your concerns and demand changes be made to the existing laws to allow at the very least, inheritance of these expensive heir looms.

^don’t worry about me…I am sales rep. I get paid to hammer until I get the desired result (or no dinner for me!) Nothing I love more than ‘expressing’ my view to politicians!!!

This whole issue will boil down to property right being added to our constitution. The last I heard, CPC may do just that. There is still hope.

We must keep the pressure up. It will make the conservatives keep their word and it will let them know we are still here (and not finished with them yet!).

I'm with Recce and Sigger69, I remember getting back from tour and having to register my Norc AK as it had gone restricted while I was overseas Croatia in '92/93.

you mis remember then. They went directly to prohibited. I have a copy of the old C17 regulations here to.

"In 1989 a gun buyer paid $10 for a Firearms Acquisition Certificate. The law required the potential gun owner to be 16 or older, without a criminal record and mentally fit. The legislation passed in 1991 in response to the Montreal Massacre was Bill C-80. The changes to the existing law were feeble and inadequate. The Uzi and the AK-47 were simply reclassified as “restricted”, as with handguns. Possession of these weapons involved merely filling out a second form."

Pardon my bluntness, but even <with> property rights enshrined in our Constitution, I just don't see it having any effect on items that are currently prohibited. Otherwise the Govt would have to pay "fair market value" to the Hell's Angels for pot seized whenever a grow up gets busted, for example. The only thing it <might> do is make it harder to declare any new item prohibited from now on, as it would make it a constitutional issue and would require, I believe, a higher majority that the standard 50%+1 at the House of Commons.

The firearm of the design commonly known as the Armalite AR-180 Sporter carbine, and any variant or modified version of it.

I think I remember those as "the good old days", we had less gun violence then.

Reading windy wendy's crap always makes me a little queasy. Especially because a LOT of people believe it. We had some guests over during the summer and one of the dad's starts going off about .50's and how he cant believe that its legal, who need that, blah blah blah...He left enlightened!

OUCH!!!

Been away for a few days, but I must say that watching "Pitdogboy" incrementally learn the ugly truth about our extant firearms laws was akin to a slow-motion multi-vehicle car-wreck. The worst part was seeing his understandable confusion/disbelief that any law could be so cocked up, only to belatedly realize that he (and his Father) truly are screwed.

Sad, very sad. Just goes to show how badly we really do need to sort this sorry mess out....

As well as the new AR180B having a lower receiver constructed of plastic, as opposed to the original's sheetmetal.
