After looking at the descriptions on Boyds website, both the varmint thumbhole and the featherweight thumbhole seem exactly the same.

Any suggestions on which model to get? Whats the difference between them?

The rifle caliber is 6.5x55, it has a shortened military stepped barrel, and will be an "all around rifle"- Target shooting, deer hunting, the odd yoddle dog....

Thanks,

Without knowing for certain, I'd venture a guess that the varmint stock's forearm will be significantly beefier.

I ordered a JRS Classic for my FN Mauser and was not impressed with fit - much too loose. I'd rather have to remove material to fit the action than have the convenience of a "drop in".

I believe the varmint has the larger barrel channel and heavier weight. Id go with the featherweight model if you are packing in the field. Also consider the prairie hunter for smoother lines and feel when packing around on a goat hunt. My two bits.
