Which BUIS?

Looking to get some flip up BUIS and there's a few options available, Troy, Midwest Ind, Magpul, others? Curious on what people would recommend, I know Magpul are the least expensive but price isn't a concern, I'm looking at what people would say are the best overall option.

Best... for what?

Do you like spring loaded? Do you mind having to push a button to depress the sight back into the lowered positions? Levers? What type of sights, regular peep, diopter? Are they going under optics? Do you want something simple with no springs or dials, or something you can range with? Front and rear? What is the total sight radius available to you? What is the height of your mount, is it 'normal' like an AR-15, or is it high like the HK MR rifles or RA XCR's?
 
Just about every popular manufacturer of AR bits has a decent BUIS system. It really comes down to personal preference and requirements.

ARMS 40 and all its latest iterations, incl the new low profile one, has been around for a long time and work well.

Troy has been a koolaid favourite for many. It works, simple to deploy not spring loaded. Locks open. Standard model is not quick windage adjustable.

GGG hasn't been as popular of late but they make solid products and have multiple range diopter models now.

YHM is famous for being the high value kid and I would mark the QDS as high as any of the more popular brands. Spring loaded, low profile, locks and has windage adjustment.

KAC makes a great sight but currently offer one or the other diopter, which again is a preference/usage consideration. eg their 2-600 is a great BUIS for the long range shooter and having a ghost ring isn't required. A Troy is marketed more as the closer BUIS and doesn't offer immediate elevation and windage adjustment.
 
Troy is the best that Ive tried. They all work, but I found the Troy to be the best constructed and most solid. arms is okay too. In my opinion, go troy and you won't be sorry!
 
I have tried and coursed with nearly all the ones mentioned. I keep coming back to the KAC 300m. Light and simple. I know the ARMS 40 is no longer fashionable but when the small aperture is removed I really like the sight.
 
So i'm a bit retarded and until now i've just nodded and smiled and pretended to know what everyone is talking about.

what the F does BUIS stand for? for the longest time i thought it was some brand name i've never heard of... the only thing i can come up with is "back up iron sight"? am i right or does my guess reinforce my retardedness?

I like the Troy Diopter's. Easier to focus with my eyes. Also great are the KAC Micro's.

BUIS does mean 'Back Up Iron Sight'. Fairly self explanatory purpose.

YHM front folding sight with GG&G rear 1. As in all honestly irons are great for 0 to 50 meter's but anything past that nothing beat's an optic with a clear field of view.
I like the KAC rear too but for the shorter ranges I find the rear peep is not big enough field of view hence why I like the GG&G 1 set at it's largest setting. A.R.M.S. is great to but not all optic's will allow it to be placed underneath it.
 
For rear BUIS only if you don't mnd a single diopter size, the Matech BUIS is quick to deply and offers standard windage adjustment but VERY responsive and fast elevation adjustment. It is (or was?) standard US ARMY issue, but isn't very popular as the aperture can be fragile when deployed, but not a concern for civvy use. You have to be careful not to overtorque the mounting bolt.

If you want ultr-cheap, NCSTAR makes a passable front BUIS and their rear is "OK" though the dual-apertures will need you to re-do windage in my experience if you change diameter.

If money is no object I'd go either Troy or ARMS.
 
Got an order placed for KAC but waiting on US State Dept. Also have Daniel Defense ones on order as well.

I know we have a number of the KAC front sights, but out of rear ones.
