Which bullet? combo hunt in Yukon

I just booked a combo hunt in the yukon, Dall sheep , grizzly and Moose. I have decided on taking my rem sps in 300 win mag, it is the lightest on my bigger guns and has always shot well.

My main goal is sheep after that a grizzly and well if a big old mr moose steps out it might have to fall down.

Question is what bullet, i reload, but have never reloaded for this gun, it really does shoot every 180 grainer in almost the same spot and all group extremly well.

I took a buffallo this winter with 180 grain nosler partitions and they seemed to work well. I am not worried about a load for the shepp and the moose, just wondering what the masses think about a bullet for the Grizzly. I shoot barnes out of all my other rifles and have had great luck on deer and moose.

Thoughts and experiences appreciated.
 
Yukon moose and grizzly are big, I'd use a bigger cal., if you don't have one I would use a 220 gr. RN in the 300 Mag. or the Speer 200gr. ptd. flat base.
 
I have dumped tonnes of game with a .300 handloaded with 200 grain Speer Grand Slams. They usually shot clean through and the animals (mostly moose and elk) usually died where they stood. I think 200 grain Nosler Partitions or Accubonds would do every bit as well. If I was using 180 grainers, they would be TTSX's or similar. That said, 200 grainers would be the first choice if I was lucky enough to be in your boots in the Yukon.
 
338win with a 250gr bullet would be my choice but if your sticking to the 300 then a good bullet in the 200gr range might be a good idea.
 
I shot a coastal grizz here using a 300 Wby loaded with 220 NP. Bullet passed through, bear was bowled over, but got up and ran into the heavy stuff (I didn't bust bone). I would go with the 180's as sheep is your main target. Don't forget, your guide will be there as well with a gun. Have you asked the outfitter his opinion?
 
He mentioned he wanted an all around bullet, firstly for sheep, then grizzly and maybe a moose.
He doesn't want a slow moving big bullet for sheep.
He mentioned the 180 grain Nosler partition. This would be the perfect, all around bullet for you. Certainly a flat enough trajectory and a good wind bucker.
It would also be ideal for a Yukon grizzly, which are not known to be huge in size. I don't know what you or your guides limit on distance would be, but in that open country a longer shot may easily be presented, so the 180 Nosler would be about perfect.
 
H4831 beat me to it. The 180 NPT is probably my favourite all-around bullet in the 30-06 and 300 WM. I thinik it is quite likely the most versatile bullet out there for lighter game like deer right up to moose. Not the newest design, and not the flashiest, but if I had to pick one 30 caliber bullet for NA hunting (and even for common game in Africa) it would be the 180 Nosler Partition. I wouldn't hesitate to use it for anything in North America and the OP obviously had success with it on bison so I think the discussion may be moot.

You say it shoots the partitions well and that you know what the Barnes are all about....Really won't go wrong with either. If the rifle shoots them, I would use a 180gr ttsx.
 
I'd use a 180gr TTSX or TSX. Better bullet than a Nosler Partition, IMHO. ALthough I've used enough partitions to know that it woudl work fine, too.
 
thanks for all the conformations, i am going to try some 180 ttsx, see how they shoot, if they dont perform, i'll buy a couple of factory loaded 180 nosler partitions... hey they shoot why mess with a good thing.

After talking again with the out fitter,he says bring what ever you shoot well and are comfortable with( good advice)...
He grew up there and said that before all these fancy smashy magnums came out everything died by 30-06.

now what rain gear?

You are soooo gonna love it there! Here a few pics of our trip last fall with Ted Wagner (Why not?). Don't forget to put caribou on you list as well.
