which caliber to choose?

The one that sticks out in my mind is the 8mm Rem.Mag., you will need a long action for this. The 330 Dakota is also a great round that can be built in a standard 30-06 length action, it has advatages like 340 Wby power in a shorter action, I have used and taken Moose with both of them. Oh yea the 358 Norma also. My bud shot a moose with one, great round.

You could build a nice M98 Mauser in .318 Westley Richards. Not the most flat shooting, but sighted in properly it would drop ~9" at 300 yards with the 250gr Woodleigh Soft Point, which is similar ballistics to the 9.3x74R. I believe you can form the brass from .30-06, if you don't mind the incorrect head stamp.

All right:
338 excaliber
338 canadian magnum
8.59 Titan
358 norma mag
358 STA

What brass is available for each and on what action your're building them?
Thanks

.358 Norma on M98...

Brass is easily made from.338 Win Mag...

So just checking.....You don't want a 338 Ultra (225 grain bullets at just under 3200fps), but you are considering a 338 Canadian????
The 338 Edge is the 300 Ultra necked up to .338 (my personal 338 Edge pushes 225 grain bullets at almost 3350fps).

The 338 Excaliber is a 338/378 with a square shoulder..no more no less. The 338/378 did not exist when this cartridge was invented.
Good luck with the Weatherby brass.

You can buy 358 Norma brass, or use 338 Win....250 grain bullet at 2800fps and will do it in a 22 inch barrel!

The 358 STA is based on a blown out 8mm Mag. IMHO they should have skipped the improved part...It's a PITA.
Never bothered me, but lots of guys complain it kicks like a mule....A 250 grain bullet at 3000 fps will do that.

I hope you realize what you are getting into here....These rounds are the real deal and will let you have it...HARD!...Every time you touch the trigger??

They are not for everyone.

Nobody has said 35 whelen yet, so Ill throw it in. Personally there is to much overlap with my 358win to justify having one...but I was looking before.

Be original.
Take a 375 H&H and neck it down to 8mm.;)

Or a 30-06 and neck up to 35?:p
Or you could just take a 375H&H and neck it down to 35cal.

Pretty well any centerfire that will go CLICK ----> BOOM-------WHACK will do whatever you need inside 300 yds. :) . Shot placement. Now if you said you want something to shoot a Moose in the EYE at 900.. then we can narrow it down a little. :)

Plan: something cool, accurate, flat trajectory, lot of energy at 300y and some punch...
Possibilities: 325wsm
338 WinMag,
9,3x62
9.3x74

For practicality it's hard to beat the 338wm. Plenty of power and good selection of bullets. I do not see the same variety of bullets available in 8mm or 9.3mm.

For coolness and practicality I like the idea of a 9.3x62. Plenty of power, fits in a standard size action, CZ makes one in a well made improved 98 style crf bolt, hmmmm...

This whole flat shooting thing is, for me, over rated and somewhat misunderstood in the electron world. For example the 338 wm drops a whole 3" or 4" more at 400 yards than a 7mm rm (going by memory on actual targets at 400 yards, not a ballistics chart). The amount of incline at the rifle to compensate for this is not material.
