Hey I like that, I think that is about the best analogy I have heard of the differences between lowers.

Hey dont worry about dlask or they are offering in canada, your lowers are the best i have seen anywhere, even the german one TSE got in or the Valtor one i have had my hands on.
The price is more but most of us do not have more then one or 2 AR 15,S so what a bit more $$$ for a much better lower.

I'd wholy disagree. While ATR make a fine rifle there is nothing wrong with a Dlask lower. In several respect Dlask has been an innovator and not a follower in the Canadian market. I own both and while fitment is equal on both I'd lean toward the Dlask for finish.

Functionality differs as some appreciate the rigidness of an integral trigger guard while others like the option of using different designs or the ability to remove the TG in certain situations. Being terribly hard on my iron and never having broken a TG I'd have to lean again toward having the choice which isn't offered in an ATR.

Don't be fooled into thinking a billet lower is far and above better in quality over a cast either. Opinion vary widely on this one. If they were that much more robust perhaps they'd be used in Spec Ops units or be the milspec standard, neither of which is the case. There are three types of lowers; cast, forged, and billet. Cast, is just that. It's a casting that's been polished up and anodized. Forged is made from a forging, which is stronger, and more reliable in it's specs than a cast lower. Billet is one that's been machined from a solid block of aluminum. For all intents and purposes all will work. I prefer forged as billet is more expensive compared to the others. Also and opinion but forged looks better and can sometimes be made to better tolerances than a cast lower depending on the manufacturer. Billetting however is a more expensive process for not much gain in quality, if any. Due to the machining process billet lowers do appear different, if having a unique piece is worth the increased price to you.

I'm on record for supporting the Canadian manufacturers and distributors and would hesitate to recommend either. Personally I believe its not a matter of better but more of choice, it's good to have one if not more in the Canadian market.

I would assume that the only reason why SF and other military groups are not using billet lowers is the cost involved. As with most military contracts, lowest bidder gets the nod as long as QC is guaranteed. i.e., US Military decision to buy the M-9 Beretta instead of the SIG P-226. Both passed the trials, but Berreta came in with a lower tender and won the contract. Incidentally, they just got another order for 450,000 additional M-9 & M-9A1 pistols. I guess that puts done on the movement to bring back the .45ACP.

Which AR ??

The solution is simple. You need to buy one of each in completely different set- ups. Never seen an ATR but believe they are top quality in their own right. I have owned Dlask AR 15 and was totally satisfied with quality and performance. You realy can't go wrong with either so let your heart or your wallet choose.
