Which cheap pistol would you recomend?

... Must be 9mm ...

I have narrowed things down to:

- Norinco 9mm 1911. I have owned norinco so I know I am gambling on quality.
- Girsan MC28. They seem decent and are copies of the M&P which I like and are familiar with
- Sig P250. a bit of a stretch in cost but its sig. Not sure on the high bore axis though, have heard the trigger is weird
- walther ppx/creed. Would have to find a used one which is fine. the grip is amazing on these
- Hi point. I can laugh off the stigma. If its reliable and accurate enough I have a sense of humour

I am just not sure on the DA/SA trigger but can be convinced otherwise.
- norino p226 copy. Have heard good things
- norinco CZ75 copy. I have handle a CZ and they are super nice

Looking for people's input on these guns or others than I have overlooked. I really don't want to go over $400.

Norinco has done a better job of copying some guns than others. Their CZ copies are one of their successes. I have an NP40, their .40S&W version of the CZ85 and it's good. Based on that I think you'd like their NZ75 or NZ85, copies of those CZ models in the original 9mm. New, taxes and shipping will put them just over your $400 dollar budget and you'll want to add more magazines. But used you should be able to get them within your budget. (I got my NP40 slightly used for $350 shipped.)

Cheap doesn't always equal value for your money. But if you buy something sensible, it will always be worth something. And I have a lot of Norincos and love every one. If you are going to have a small collection, You need to have one good firearm that won't break the bank. And I think any Glock will fill that spot.

I bought a "stainless" Norinco 1911 when Tenda had them on sale for $329.00 or $349.00 or something like that, anyways for the price it's better than an MC-28 and the SD9VE,
I had both of those guns and my sd9 was a bad shooting gun, couldn't hit a quarter sheet of plywood at 10 yards (maybe a bit of an exaggeration but not far off, the mc-28 was way more accurate
but the one I had only shot well with 148 grain and after ten yards it wasn't so great either. I thought it was me and larger caliber guns, I thought I was just a bad shot until I traded
the mc-28 for my 14-2 S&W and i'm hitting the target with that at 50 yards, that brings me back to the Norinco 1911 in 9mm which I can also hit the paper at 50 yards, so it wasn't me with the
first to 9mm's I had and with how easy the parts are to get and the cost to buy you just can't beat this version of the 1911.

I do think the mc-28 is a nice looking gun, the sd9 not so much but you gotta love the style of a 1911.

Glocks are just ok. I have extensive training with them so I can speak from real experience.

The biggest thing to consider is that most police and now militaries are using them. Military and police buy 99% of mass issue equipment from the lowest bidder. There are exceptions like sometimes Canada, that will go with the highest bidder because that bidder is their friend. Don't ever forget that. Obviously there is a line, you don't see agencies using hi points.

Glocks are very reliable, accurate enough and are cheap (unless you are a Canadian civilian). That is why they are so popular. With popularity comes accessories which is nice but I am not into heavily customizing things. being able to customize is the only thing that makes it stand out. I think the M&P is the superior to the glock. However I would take either one into the zombie apocalypse.

The cost is simply too high for what it offers. When glocks started coming out Mr. Glock wanted to sell them for 200 bucks. His marketing team said no sell them for more so people don't think they are just cheap crap. That idea worked pretty well. If glocks ever become 400-500 dollar guns new (which is where they should be) my opinion on owning one will change.

To make an analogy, I prefer the Marlin 795 over the 10/22. The 795 is cheap, lighter and accurate. The 10/22 is customizable, more expensive, heavier, accuracy is the same if not worse. I don't care about massive customization. 795 is superior

Don't buy a cheap gun. Buy an inexpensive gun.l The two are different. For inexpensive any used M&P Gen 1 off the exchange are worth looking at. The Beretta Italian Police pistols (92F Version) are excellent buys. The downside is the heel mag release button but for a range/truck gun they are, in my opinion an excellent purchase particularly if you have young eyes. The Girsan copies of the Beretta 92 are very good with a number of parts that are interchangeable with the Beretta's. The build quality is excellent. I have no idea where you would get parts for some of the other Girsan models. That doesn't mean they are not available, I just don't know.

Hope this helps.

Take care

Bob

Watch the EE section on this Site. There are often very good buys there for around $400 - $550.

I have 3 Glocks My IPSC and 2gun pistol is a Glock. Heck even my CGN logo is a Glock logo. But nope I would not suggest u to get a Glock especially IFF u are new to pistol (just my assumption). The M&P suggestion above is spot on. That is an excellent first 9mm. Glock is extremely reliable but u will very likely be unhappy with your first few range trips. Just my opinion as a Glock owner.

My second post on this subject was because I personally always try to buy what I will end up with, in this case a Glock. There is however some virtue to the idea of fully learning to operate a pistol with an olde tyme thumb safety I suppose.

Ran 1x G17 gen 3 and 2x G17 gen 4
Even though gen 4s we’re better, ended up selling them all, not my thing

Now that i got a gen 5, i swear by it.
And often repeat, that you won’t find a more accurate gun than a gen 5 for 750$+tx

This gen has 1911 style accuracy.
I love it, definitely the best bang for buck.
And now that fonger grooves are out, fits my hands like a glove

I have fired 2 differemt NP22s and owned one of them. They were both very accurate. I sold one to my dad and loves it. He did have to replace the trigger bar. I understand this to be a weakness. The Sig Sauer trigger bar from brownelles works.

Don't wanna hijack the post but I also bought a NP22 recently and very happy with it. There is nothing wrong at all and it runs just fine and super accurate. I ended up replacing the SRT kit and found doing that already improved the DA trigger quite a bit. May be I am lucky because I do hear some Norc not-so-happy-ending stories. My only other Norc gun is a T97 which I am really happy about that as well.

I would suggest the NP22 for anyone looking for an affordable pistol since it really go way over my expectation in a $325 gun (Well.. I do think they cloned a very well designed gun in the first place ;) )
