Which CHEAP semi-auto shotguns are decent enough to not blow up in my face?

Not sure we're you will be or I will be .but I know my kids or grand kids will still be able to shoot my model 12 and 870 shotguns.at least the guns will still be able to be used..lol..proven shotgun last for generations.

Well said Dutch. Let them buy their JUNK 10 times over. They will find out quickly 30 years is a blink of an eye and they better start planning ahead and soon
Cheers

Agree.

In 30 I hope I'll be shooting trap 5x a week and b!tching about young guys, but in 50 I'll likely be in the ground and its really important to me that my descendants have something other than a faded picture to remember me by.

Then be like me. Buy guns that are 100-140 years old. They have all ready proven themselves and will likely be around loooong after I'm gone, LOL (although I'm not really laughing)!

That's what I'm doing right now. Trap, skeet, and sporting clays. The OP asked for a cheap auto shotgun. For me that is what the Mossy 930 is. I'm using it mainly for waterfowling. I don't want to bounce a $3000.00 gun around in a duck boat or layout blind. In the summer I give her a work out shooting clays but my regular clay guns are differed gauges Browning O/Us. These are the ones I will be passing on when I'm ready.

I'm not a fan of new guns but thats my thing. New is better in the form of interchangeable choke tube, steel safe barrels, etc... Promised my young son I would buy him a new autoloader shotgun if he got 100 percent on his hunter safety course. Well... we marched down to the gun counter and I bought him a new Weatherby SA-08 20 gauge deluxe. Simple design and easy take down for cleaning. Put a couple boxes off shells through it without a hiccup. I like the M12's though, my Browning double autos and my A5.

I hear you loud and clear. I'm just not much of an "collector" type. Not really into old cars either. I don't know why, because I insist on "classic and timeless" when I'm looking for an heirloom - guns for me, jewellery or shoes for the little lady.

We have 4 citori's in our house, and I'm damn glad we do!!! We bought a .410 when WSS was clearly them out for a little one that wasn't even conceived yet!!! She's on her way now, so I guess it's not as asinine as it was.

I'm gonna get a versamax one day soon.

Just watch the year on the versamax. I had an early one and it was trouble. Later ones I think are fine
Better to spend your money on a new browning semi IMO

I don't know if you are looking for a clays gun or hunting?? or one for both
I have a A400 but rarely use it not that I have found anything wrong with it
Cheers

I'm not a one shotgun guy. For semi-autos, I only use them for waterfowl and I've been very happy with my A391 Xtrema2, which is basically an older A400.

Just look to some US based water fowling and Shot gunning forums. There are a lot of "My Beretta (insert 400 etc) is broke" threads. I own a A302 and it has been great. My nephews Extrema went lame over a 2.00 part. Sad for a 2000.00 gun.

If memory serves the 400 series is a complete redesign over the 390/391 series, this may be the root of the possible reliability issues. I own an example of the 391, which I like a lot, but have never made a direct comparison against a 400 series. Anybody had the opportunity to do so?

To each their own. Lots of newer berettas are dominating the goose and duck blinds for a reason.

Yep because they don't make Browning GOLD's any more :)
Lets just say I have experience with most and the a400 would be gone in a second and the golds die with me as probally will my X3
Cheers
