Hi all,

As much as I've said in the past that I won't buy any Chinese knock-off firearms, I'm considering a single exception: An 870 clone, with a 14" barrel. I'm a little confused over which to buy though.. which ones are most compatible with 870 after-market parts? Or more specifically, which clone is actually a clone?

Thanks,

For best compatibility: Don't get the 780 "Homeland Security" (the REALLY cheap one) and don't get the 18.5" HP9 (Reminton barrels won't fit - This is the model I have).

To my knowledge, a 14" HP9 will be 100% compatible with 870 parts. Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong on that...

SFRC has a few listed on their site now, some with ATI stocks. I'm sure some of the other sponsors have a few as well.

The Norcs are cheap, and depending who you ask, as good as or possibly better than an 870 Express (though the argument is rarely made that they're better than a Wingmaster).

^^ That's awesome. As much as I like a new, pristine, gadget-equipped super-shotgun, a worn, beaten, trusty workhorse is pretty cool on it's own.

Maybe I'm missing something, but why not just get a real 870 ??

Cost primarily. I'm on a tight budget for the next few months, and with the holiday's approaching, squeezed a little further. I want a 14" shotgun, but I can only afford $500 or less (including taxes, delivery etc).

The HP9 is a good start, but it does use a metric screw to connect the stock to the receiver. So be aware of this if you swap out stocks that use a different length screw, you may have to shop around and try to find one. Also the forearm threads are pretty shallow and short, and some after market stocks may need slight mods. to get them to stay on. Otherwise these guns run like hell and are a good buy.

So far my dominion arms 12.5 is totally backwards compatible with the 870, stock (and bolt), barrel, forearm, trigger, bolt and carrier

cheaper and better then the new express, functionally as reliable as a wingmaster but definitely not as refined/fit and finish not as nice.

oh and good luck finding a new Remington with a 14" or 12.5" barrel!
