Which chronograph to buy?

I bought the F! Shooting Chrony. It works great even in windy conditions. I am going to order the printer for it. Its sometimes hard to see the readout from the shooting position. I was going to buy the Hornady Chrony but all the reviews are bad. The Shooting Crony is made of steel and folds together when your done.

Depends on how accurate you need?

Bryan Litz tested many of the commercially available Chronys on the market. In order to use the optical sensing type, you should be perfectly square to the gates and try and a use longer gate spacing to minimize errors in gate alignment (parallel). It was determined that that a small 1/8" difference in sensor spacing leads to a 31.3fps error in velocity for standard 12" units. Magnetospeeds were ranked near the top of the pile next to his own custom made 4' Ohler and artificial light source. I am currently saving my pennies for a magnetospeed.

If you want to read more about this, get his latest book "modern advancements in long range shooting", an excellent read!

Bought an F-1 in 1987 when they first came out---------replaced it this spring because it stopped working. I'm hoping they make the new ones as good as the old ones. The loads I've checked with the new one are all within 15 fps averages. Differing powder lots could be all of that difference.

Did you replace it with the same make model?

Check out mylabradar.com for the latest evolution in checking bullet speed, it looks interesting to me. I'm not sure I like the way the magnetospeed attaches to the barrel, not sure how that would effect accuracy unless you are just dumping rounds into the berm to get velocity readings and not accuracy testing at the same time. I have a Chrony right now and it seems to work well too.
