I like the Browning system. Most of the advantages of a DM, but few of the disadvantages. It doesn't ruin the look of the rifle, and its super handy and easy to swap out

Dm

My main hunting rig is a 700 BDL SS DM 7mm Rem mag. I like the DM in the stand, in and out of vehicle,ATV etc. Just plain easier than traditional hinged floorplates. Prefer look of my hinged floorplate bolt rifles mind you, but I like the DM system in the field.

School's out on this one...

I have and use both DM and HFP. However, it seems most of my accurate stuff has HFP so that's what I end up using most.

Sometimes I'll use a Score High Single-Shot Adapter in HFP guns (http://www.sinclairintl.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=search&item=SHX&type=store)

One shot - one kill - open bolt - gun's cleared

I like Browning's system also. I have no trouble orienting the mag into the floorplate. While not quite as fast as a regular detachable, it's pretty darned close. Certainly fast enough for hunting.

I have 2 rifles with hinged floorplate. One with detach mag and my browning bbr with hinged detach. I worry about losing my mag in the detach mag rifle. I have never worried about it with the browning . My other 2 hinged floorplates i have never worried either.
Hinged floorplate seems old school but there is a real attraction to loading each round into the top load at the beginning of each hunt.
It can be a pain too. Cold fingers make it difficult.
Detachable mag just click it in and your ready to roll. The same fast click can ruin your hunt when you accidentally lose your mag.
The browning can be a real pain too. The mag has to click on the detach floorplate just so or it wont go in. It has pissed me off on more than one occasion.
So my choice would be..............The detachable mag with a lock so you cant lose it.:( Unfortunately it hasnt been invented yet so i will say hinged floorplate.

I know the hinged floor plate is a great system but if you can have the detach mag then why not. The armmed forces must use the detachable mags
for a reason. They are fast, reliable, and just an all around better way to
get ammo in and out of a firearm.(I know this is the hunting gun forum so
lets not go down the its not necessary road). I'm just sayin if they use them
it got to be a good system. CDN1 out!!

Hinged floorplates are the best choice for me. Detachable magazines can become lost or damaged. Feeding is often better from a fixed magazine but jams from a blind magazine can be nearly impossible to clear in the field. Neither do I like to cycle rounds through the chamber to unload. A hinged floorplate allows for quick unloading, makes it easy to clear rounds that don't feed, and allows the magazine to be easily cleaned of debris.

That is not to say there can't be problems with hinged floorplates. A powerful rifle that dumps all of it's remaining rounds on the ground because the floorplate opens in recoil when fired at dangerous game is inconvenient. This is pretty much the only failure one hears with regards to the hinged floorplate, providing that the geometry of the specific magazine allows for reliable feeding, and it should be easily resolved.

Military uses detach magazines because they need to shoot alot of ammo, and quickly reload. If you are doing this in hunting, you are doing it wrong....

Inconvenient........somewhat of an understatement.

Like the DM because it keeps your ammo together when the gun is unloaded. Normally i just keep the mag in the gun and if I need to load it I can do so through the action (think Lee Enfield but I do it also with my Savage 111). As for varminting, the DM is a lot nicer because of the volume of shooting often done

I love my Lee-Enfield and because of that I'm used to a detach, however I think I'm the only dude on the planet that doesn't have a problem with the BAR system. Ya it's silly that it's not a straight up detach, but it isn't that difficult to slam the mag in close it and pull back the bolt.
