If you would like a less expensive but still comprehensive book on the design, development and manufacture of Enfield rifles, with particular reference to the 1879 - 1950 period, I would suggest THE LEE-ENFIELD RIFLE by Major E.G.B. Reynolds. This is a 1960 book but it was written BEFORE the Great Paper Shredding which took place as Enfield modernized for the production of the FN-FAL rifle.
The book is utterly unavailable except for the occasional (very) expensive copy which turns up second-hand and it is still in Copyright. By special arrangement with the Publishers in England, members of milsurps.com may download their own copy for reference, FREE. Just pop on over to milsurps, take out a (free) membership and start pillaging that wonderful Military Knowledge Library....... beginning with this title. While you are at it, download a (free) copy of SHOOT TO LIVE!, the Canadian WW2 training manual on accurate shooting with rifles with iron sights.
Hope this helps.
