I'm building an upper with a 16" barrel. I'm hesitating as for which flash hider to get. I already have a Vortex on another build, and it's supposed to be the best out there. Now, should I try something new or it's a no brainer and I should stick with the Vortex?

I would say Jerry Miculek comp or Surefure comp. I had a Miculek comp on my 16" armalite,..loved it. If I could get one for my XCR, it would be that or the surefire units.

It's a personal preference or based upon what you plan on doing.

A brake or comp will be preferable if you compete.
I like the vortex or phantom flash suppressors if you actually want a flash hider.
The KX3 I believe was designed for short carbines (12.5 inches and less) to increase reliability (gas pressures) and reduce blast.

It's really up to you.

The KX3 would look weird on a 16 inch, the Vortex works and looks slick.

This is on a 14 1/2 (for those who've been living on the moon)

I hear the dlask one that is similar to a vortex is actually supposed to be better at muzzel flash reduction... I will have to pick one up and try it

Thanks. The triple tap, although I am sure is the cat's meow, is just 7x over my budget.
The troy medieval, how much is felt recoil reduce compared to the standard birdcage?

For flash reduction without going to a full suppressor your going to be best served by;
BE Meyers Blackout
AAC BlackOut
SEI Vortex

They are opened tined flash hiders that however due have an annoying "ting" to them when they impact something.

Also the old M16 three prong is fairly good at flash suppression.

All of the open tip also snag vegetation (my boss is rife with issues from that in RVN)

The closed tip will sacrifice some flash suppression for less ringing and snagging.

Brakes are a different animal -- some try to do both.

The US DoD is currently under taking a Recoil Management program, in which different weapons and muzzle devices are being tested to both get a history and recoil from legacy systems and other possbilities

Probably 10-15%. Knight claims up to 40% for the triple tap (flash?), but for the money I'd opt for 2000 rounds of ammo instead.
