I placed an order for Hornady's LnL press on Dec.31, 2009, just to make the free 1000 bullet offer. I haven't got it yet - gotta drive to Cleveland to pick up all reloading stuff I ordered to my friend's address - but I know I have to hurry & send the form to Hornady quick, so they can receive it by Feb.14.

My problem is this: I'm totally new to reloading. I know I'm gonna reload 45ACP for my 1911. So far, I only shot it with American Eagle 230grain ammo (no idea what the bullet is though). The ones available on Hornady's form are:

45CAL .451 185GR HP/XTP and
45CAL .451 185GR SWC TAR ENC

I don't need HP, I only shoot for target practice. Should I pick the 2nd one then?

TIA.

P.S. Apparently Hornady has a similar program this year - however, you only get 500 bullets...

pick the most expensive rifle bullets, and if you eventually get them, sell them and buy 1000 cheaper bullets, keep the change :)

but if you don't want to do this, then yes for target SWD is the way to go, except... they only have 185gr? no 200gr SWD? (semi wad-cutter FYI)

185gr is all they have. Incidentally, these are the most expensive ones- well, almost... :D
Thanks for the info!

I shoot these: 45CAL .451 185GR SWC TAR ENC; and ordered 1000 from Hornady after my L&L purchase.

I put em over 5.8 gr of Vihtavuori N320 with a COL of 1.205". They work splendidly 95% of the time and put a nice big, highly visible, hole in a target. I do get the occasional FTF, however, which is a frustration during a match so I plan to make my next batch with a slightly longer COL.

A word(s) to you as a new reloader; COL when reloading is important. Changing it affects pressures. COL data for the 185 gr JSWC is often lacking in manuals so know you can generally seat em to 1.20 COL and work up your loads accordingly.

Make sure that you obtain the necessary import permits from the US authorities to bring those bullets across the border.

i have yet to hear success from any CGN member with this hornady promotion...

Ah ! you missed it then. Early last year a couple of guys posted that their bullets came through. I had my form returned by Hornady because I had sent them the wrong code from the box. I resubmitted the form and now I'm waiting again.

A lot of Hornady product has been Waaaay slow in arriving during the past 18 months or more, never mind the freebie bullets. Took me half a year to lay hands on a L&L press last year. Anyhow, it seems the price of their presses is increasing and the number of free bullets you get is falling so eventually Hornady should catch up with their backlog,,I hope.

Bullets are still bullets a year from now... I don't mind waiting, eventually they will come. Which makes the price of Hornady LnL AP real attractive: 400-300 = $100US, LOL. I'm not picking them up though - I'm planning to travel to & from US trouble-free for years to come. :D

Owwooo :dancingbanana:I just received 1000 44 cal heads delivered by Canpar. I have waited since last April 2009. I guess they do come through.

I have bought a couple sets of dies and another powder measure so I guess I should send in for that and wait another year for them.

Now I have to work on some parts that I need.
