Looking to add a glock 17 to the safe as I am curious to try one and I have a carbine that has amassed me a collection of Glock mags.

Having not handled any 17's, does it matter what gen I get? Most likely getting one off the EE regardless. Thanks in advance

I got the gen 4 , very reasonable now that the 5 is out and i prefer it anyways , added a magwell and extended mag release and slide release and a custom end plate and done
what i saved more than paid for the upgrades ,,i like it shoots well

I prefer the Gen 5. Not a fan of the finger grooves on the Gen 4. Wasn't comfortable with how the grooves forced my fingers into a place they didn't want to be.

Go to a shop and try both generations and see which feels better.

I would say Gen 4. Gen 4 lower CAN run Gen 3 upper just in case you need to replace one ,and not the other way around (the front half circle gap is not an issue). Gen 4 upper can run Gen 3 guide rod with a ring adapter (not the other way around). Gen 3 trigger should also works with just swapping the trigger housing. Gen3 and Gen4 stuff are still generally easy to find. A lot of stuff is changeable between Gen3 and 4.

The Gen 4 is looking like the best option. Prices seem reasonable on them and lots of videos out there on how to get rid of the finger grooves and do some stippling, etc. Thanks for all the feedback. Looking forward to trying a Glock

Have you considered a G19 Gen 4? They are amazing and really reasonably priced at the moment.

I would say either a 9mm Gen 3 with the "frying pan finish" or a Gen 5. I can't seem to make my hand fit the finger grooves on the Gen 4.

Gen 3 hands down winner, 350 small block Chevy of the masses; don't let anyone tell you different. Pinnacle of Glock's entire line for "perfection", at least until they started mim-ing some of the parts at the end of gen 3's. If the finger grooves and grip fit you and your not a southpaw, your good to go.

Best

Gen 3 Glocks are my personal favorites, and are available for VERY reasonable prices on the used market. I don't have a 17 anymore, but I do have several other Gen 3 models and feel no desire to 'upgrade'.

Buy a Gen 4 and send it to Black Box Customs for their stipple work, or just buy the Glock from them directly. For the extra you will have an absolutely superb shooting pistol.

I don’t know. Only you can answer that.

I had a Gen4 but went to the Gen5 as soon as it was out, and have never looked back. No finger grooves is a big upgrade for my hands. I’m also a fan of the optional Ameriglo sights that came with my Gen5; big improvement over the Gen4 sights.

How big are your hands? My hands are on the smaller side and the gen 4 with finger grooves fits my hands so well I don't even feel them, gen 3 feels too big in my hands, and gen 5 Iam sure is fine but I hate the new beveled edges on the slide, doesn't look "Glockish" to me
