Hey guys,

I’ve recently purchased a Glock 19, but I have yet to receive it. The gun is coming with two Pmags.

I’d like to pickup a couple more mags.

Which mags work the best for the 19? is it OEM Glock? Pmags?

Should I be looking at 10 round mags? 10/15 mags?

Sorry, I’m not new to handguns but I’m new to Glock.

I searched but it was hard to narrow down the search results for what I’m looking for.

Thanks!!

OEM Glock is best in my book, PMAG and ETS are acceptable (plus ETS are clear which provide LCF). Stay away from KCI!

I've seen another brand that ship with the FX-9 carbines. They run ok, but no better than PMAG.

Glock 19s are 15 round capacity normally, so you're mags would be 10/15. Dedicated 10/10 are fine in my experience.

I had forgotten about the 15 round capacity of the Glock 19. I was thinking of the Glock 17.

So, OEM ... makes sense.

OEM Glocks are the best at feeding properly, dropping free and ease of loading.

I use OEM, Pmags and ETS? (The clear ones)

I had issues with the first generation of glock pmag, they had the habit to stick around in the mag well... "gen2" don’t do it anymore but they don’t drop as easily as OEMs. I use my pmags for regular range day, OEM for matches.

If you can, grab Glock OEM magazines. I find 10/15 easier to load and when travelling to the USA, I go thru the dangerous task of unpinning after entry and repinning before entry to make sure to bot endanger my fellow citizen’s lives :p 10 rounders will work fine too.

Like everybody else says OEM glock mags 17 pinned to 10are the best. I have a few KCI mags that are ok. They cycle fine, you just have to insert them with a little authority and they don't drop freely like the OEM ones but they work. I can load the OEM ones way faster, KCI ones you need to be careful when using a mag loader as they will push on the base of the round and jam.

Stick with OEM. In theory, standard capacity magazines are regarded as more reliable than ten-round magazines, but that is before the standard capacity magazine has been permanently modified (to 10) to be legal in Canada. There is no doubt in my mind that a clean magazine is more reliable than a unable-to-be-disassembled-because-it's-been-permanently-modified-to-ten 'standard' capacity magazine, and if people are drilling rivets and then re-installing rivets (to clean magazines), what they're doing is probably not a something that you'll want to do. In Canada, I stick with OEM, ten-round capacity. I also suggest that you buy a magazine disassembly tool (like this one):

Wendell,

have you ever had a malfunction with an oem mag modified 10/17 or 10/15?

that tool is great.

As far as I know, Glock has never released for sale to the public any modified-capacity magazines; to my mind, by definition, a modified-capacity magazine is no longer OEM.

Having said that, of the various aftermarket 'chop' jobs that I've used and inspected, there has been a degree of variation of the methods employed, and - to me - it appears as though many the 'choppers' have not always been focused on reliability, or legality. In my experience, and anecdotally, many of these 'chopped' magazines often need remedial work just to function at all, and that would be one thing, but this remedial work often involves things that - in Canada - are illegal. Other magazines have been reliable, but - to my mind, at least - relied upon changes that didn't appear to match the specific phrasing in the regulations. And yes, I've experienced many malfunctions with these 'chopped' magazines, just as I've experienced many failures-to-feed with the last cartridge from a OEM ten-round magazine.

It's one thing for an individual to prefer to use a modified-capacity magazine, but - given the pros of the OEM ten-rounder, and the issues associated with modified magazines - I think it irresponsible to recommend modified-capacity magazines to a new person.

I have +20 pinned mags from a variety of sources. Inconsistent pinning inspired me to redo them all. Stainless 1/8x1/8 rivets, filed after install, work great and last for years. Short enough to not interfere with the spring, but long enough to block the follower. Easy to fully disassemble without removing the rivet if you wish.

Pinned mags load to 10 easily without Uplula, and take down easily without take-down tool. Both Uplula and take-down tool are really only needed for OEM 10 round mags, IMO.

Unless you have small hands, you may also want to consider getting Pearce mag extensions:
