Which Glock Mags Work Best?

Only reasons to NOT go OEM Glock magazines:
Price
Availability

Reasons to go with aftermarket mags other than price & availability
You want to try something different so you can be an expert when recommending stuff on forums like these
You want the see through bodies (ETS)
They are easier to disassemble (OEM are a bear to take apart!)

I don't have as much experience as many of the other CGN members on this website. I have only ONE KCI 10/33 magazine which I bought because I didn't know any better back in the day. It runs as well as any of my OEM Glock magazines. But I have heard horror stories by others both in Canada and in the US

I have used both factory ten rounders and pinned 10/17 on both my G22 (40cal with an extra conversion barrel) and my G34 Gen5. The only time I EVER have a hiccup is when I load 9mm into the 40cal mags. They work in a pinch but not recommended and especially not in a self defense situation!

OEM Glock is best in my book, PMAG and ETS are acceptable (plus ETS are clear which provide LCF). Stay away from KCI!

I've seen another brand that ship with the FX-9 carbines. They run ok, but no better than PMAG.

Glock 19s are 15 round capacity normally, so you're mags would be 10/15. Dedicated 10/10 are fine in my experience.

I was thinking of grabbing some of those KCI 33rd mags. What is wrong with them? Or should I ask as to what type of problems did you have them the KCI mags?

I have a few kci 10/26 .45 acp mags and they are all flawless in G21 and Vector. I didn't know they had problems.

Unless you have small hands, you may also want to consider getting Pearce mag extensions:

If you're going to use an extension you should have bought a Glock 17.

Well, then I wouldn't have the option of running with extended mags or stock G19 mags and it wouldn't match my G44 (uses same holster). So thanks so much for the very helpful suggestion, but I am happier with the G19.

All standard frame Glock pistols will work in the same holsters, as long as the length is there. Same for magazines.

How about you do you and let others make their own choices.

Just pointing out the logic that's missing by using an extension vs a full size grip.

Have you also said that to every g19x owners you've met? Sure Glock marketed something completely useless for people that should've just bought 17s...

Yes, the 19x offers zero benefits over a 19 or 17.

ever handle a g19x? i do like it over a gen5 17 ...

You misread my answer to the other gentleman up there. I'm stating there's a good reason the X exist and that people adding extra grip to their 19s shouldn't have necessarily bought a 17 as he states...

Sassybee, that is your opinion. I guess Glock and all the X owners and then some have one that differs from yours ;)

You might say opinion, but I say logic based facts.

The 19x was the leftovers from the US army trials, which Glock was blatantly screwed out of. The 19X was their "compact" submission. With no contract to fulfill, why not dump it to the public. No shock to many, people lapped it up like fresh milk. There's nothing a 19X can do that a 17 or 19 can't do. if you carry appendix then the 3/4" shorter slide might be a bonus. Then again, why not run a 19 with 17 mags with the slip on spacer. Effectively creating a 19X with the option of going back to stock 19 Grip length if desired. For that matter, you can do the same thing with a Glock 26, and pick your grip length based on magazine used. Offering both 19 and 17 lengths if desired.

The story I keep hearing is "the 19x with the short slide offers faster follow ups and less muzzle rise." I heard the same line of marketing when the Glock 34/35 practical tactical models came out. Stating that the increased slide length/weight and the increased "sight radius"(another pile of manure) results in less flip and smoother, softer recoil impulse. Now a smart person would surmise that the increased length and weight will in fact reduce felt recoil and aid in muzzle rise. Therefore, the reduced length and weight of the 19/19x slide cannot provide the same benefits as the longer 34/35 series. Making the claim of faster and flatter follow ups a complete lie. I own 17's, 19's and had a 26. the shorter and lighter the gun, the more pronounced the recoil and flip was. That doesn't mean they were uncontrollable. I stick to my 19's now and have no problem shooting them just as well as my 17's.

if you have seen the g19x original with an external safety and the one we have for the poor peons you will see a difference lol ..

having the g17 gen5 and 2 g19xs and 1g45 coming form the states i know what is working for me ...

This convo went off the rails already.

OP was about what mags to use to in his Glock

Use the ones that came with it.
Buy whatever your budget can tolerate.
Enjoy!

I use magpul, glock factory and kci in my glock 19g3 , the kci ones came with the gun , no issues with them or the others.
The factory ones are the hardest to load and cost the most , they also will not work with the magpul magwell without some modifications, but , I ended up dropping the magpul magwell, just seems kind of pointless, if you can't get a double stack single feed mag in the big magwell, you need more practice, but , I digress. Lol
The magpul ones needed a little sanding of the rivet to help them drop free , but are priced not bad .

OEM Glocks are the best at feeding properly, dropping free and ease of loading.

I use OEM, Pmags and ETS? (The clear ones)

I had issues with the first generation of glock pmag, they had the habit to stick around in the mag well... "gen2" don’t do it anymore but they don’t drop as easily as OEMs. I use my pmags for regular range day, OEM for matches.

If you can, grab Glock OEM magazines. I find 10/15 easier to load and when travelling to the USA, I go thru the dangerous task of unpinning after entry and repinning before entry to make sure to bot endanger my fellow citizen’s lives :p 10 rounders will work fine too.

never thought of that when we re or were now shooting in skagway and borrowed mags there.

Warning: gripe-rant follows. Paid top dollar for a bunch of extra factory magazines for my G44 and darned if they work very well at all. I really have to baby them when loading and then be very careful not to disturb how the rounds are protruding from the lips of each magazine to get them to operate in the gun at all. I waited ridiculous years for a .22 calibre Glock but should have waited forever, ie, not bought one at all. Gripe-rant ends.

I ended up buying a few G19 Magpul PMAGS, and they work well.

The mags were not quite as long as I need (I have a larger magwell installed). So, I also bought larger baseplates (GL plates) from Magpul. Adding the baseplates onto the PMAGS made them just a bit longer, and now they function flawlessly in my Shadow Systems MR918.

Unfortunately all rimfire pistols suffer the same issues. My 44 is the same, a little extra care is needed when loading the Mags. Sucks, but it's the nature of rimfire.
