I have never owned a glock. I have sig's and M&P's but have decided to buy a glock from police ordanance. I am considering the 17/22 and am trying to decide on fixed or adjustable sights. Since my 12 yr old son will be shooting it as well i'm thinking about getting the 17c version for less recoil for him. He's no stranger to handguns but has never shot anything bigger than a .22. If I like the glock my next one will a 35.

Opinion and ideas ??

I went with the G22 and the LW and IGB 40-9 conversion barrels. You can shoot both 9 and 40. I hightly doubt if the compensated 17C will do much in reducing recoil with the 9mm cartridge.

If You are really thinking about your son I would rather go with Browning Hi Power or Ruger SR9 instead of Glock.
All steel pistol with fairly small grip will be much easier to hold and shoot for him.
Glock grip may be simply too big for the small hand plus it's fairly light.
If You really have to go plastic Ruger SR9 grip is much smaller than Glock with the nicer trigger.

Or the M&P9, it's way more egronomical than the Glock.

Thanks for the reply. I'm going Glock because of the great deal and always wondered if i'd like them. The gen4 is adjustable back strap so may be easier for him to hold but he has a pretty big hand for is age. I'm thinking the 9 mm as well because the ammo is a bit cheaper too.

Two things mate. First, Brian and his team at Police Ordnance are very, very educated on Glocks and great guys to deal with. Talk with them.
Second, maybe take your boy a bit further up the road to Target Sports and see if you can rent one for him to try first?

At any rate, I personally love Glocks, have used a lot of them over the years and enjoyed the massive after market.

Cheers.

I'm familiar with both Gen4 and SR9.
Big difference in handling if You have smaller hands.
Best deal at Police Ordnance won't beat the regular SR9 price BTW.

I picked up a 34 gen 4 from police ordinance and am very happy with them and the gun.
The staff there convinced me to get a 34 instead of the 17 and a few people I know tried it and want one now as well.

HMMM - Again I'm only considering the glock because I've always wanted to try one. I may love it. I own my own range so no chance to try anything other than what I own !! - lots of sigs and s&w's with a few others thrown in the mix over the years. I don't think a 40 would be too much for him as he shoots 20 gauge and .223 regularly - at least three times a week. My plan was to start on a regular 17 or 22 and then if the grip position suited me than go for the 34 and leave the 17/22 for my son.
Whats your thought on sights - fixed or adjustable??

Well, thanks for making that clear for us.
Since it's not about your son, than I'm sure You'll be just fine with any Glock.
Fixed or adjustable - both suck IMO. Go with Trijicon instead.

Go with glock night sights the metropole sights are factory tuned and will be the most accurate out of the box.

Thanks guys.
I'm thinking 17 gen 4 with adjustable sights. That way I can switch back straps for my son if he wants to shoot it.
My biggest concern is if the geometry will suit me/us.
Without going into a big debate what is a decent holster?

Go fixed, it will force you or your son to correct your shooting position and pistol handling. As soon as you play with ajustable sights you start to shot all over the target. And yeah a Glock 17 will be ok for your son, like anything he will get used to it.
