Well guys and gals I took the CCW course in Chilliwack yesterday and now have to make a decision on which handgun I want to carry.

I am 6' 3" 210lbs - 215lbs and can shoot just as well with either a revolver or a semi-auto...

My smallest handgun now is a full size government 1911 style semi-auto Colt Delta Elite 10mm...

Part of my thinking is to go with a revolver so that I never have to worry about jams, as well as they are more forgiving with not having to maintain them as often. I would be limited to 5-6 shots though which in most cases would be more than enough...

I am thinking 357mag for a revolver or 357 Sig, 40S&W or a compatible velocity 10mm and last but not least a 45acp.

Any thoughts/suggestions/ideas/experiences would be great...

When I win my 12(6) court case I will finally get the following.

If you are not 12(6) then maybe a Colt Commander.

Don't get the Norinco since you will not be allowed to take it into the USA.

I completed the Chilliwack CCW course as well.

I have decided on my S&W, Model 12 Airweight. It is a round butt K-frame, .38 Special. The beauty of the Model 12's is that they have wonderful flat spring triggers. The single action is so light and crisp while the double action is smoooooth and easy to use.

It has an aluminum frame so it only weighs around 20 oz empty. It is an easy revolver to carry all day. Another plus is that it is a 6 shot cylinder.

I would like to replace the Pachmayer grips that came with it. I am looking for SW wood stocks and would then install a Tyler T-grip. That would make it more compact, easier to conceal and less likely to print through my clothing.

Other pieces of kit are a Surefire 6P, HKS speedloader (though I'll probably replace this with a strip loader) and a Kershaw Blur.

I sure hope that Washington state changes it's current stance regarding CCW by Canadians.

I like the 1911 frame but don't feel comfortable with any of the single-action condition-of-carry options, so I just purchased a Para LDA for CCW. I chose the 45-7 (full frame single stack .45 ACP) because I'm a big guy, too at 6'2 and 225 lb, (can obscure more pistol) and have big hands (feel better control with a larger grip).

Their model called "CCW" would be the sweet answer for someone who likes a smaller 1911 frame that is not a Canadian prohib.

I go along with James in terms of bullet choice. Give me BIG and I won't care about slow.... (Big thump, low risk of over-penetration)

What about the shortened 454? To heavy maybe?

It actually would be awesome in the winter months but there is no way I could conceal that thing in the warmer months...

What do you think a judge/prosecuting lawyer would say if I had to defend my life with it?

Their going to asked "Did you intend to kill when you shot your attacker" ...

I'd respond with a sheepish "noooo what would give you that idea"... "I only shot to wing em"... OK the correct answer would be "I only shot to stop the threat"...

Now on the other hand it would make about the best car defense handgun ever made... :D

The other thing is unless I was shooting 45 Colts out of it there would be far to much recoil for a fast accurate second shot... OH wait a second I wouldn't need an accurate second shot would I.... :dancingbanana:

I just got off the phone from Bob Mernickle of Mernickle Holsters http://www.mernickleholsters.com/ he used to live in Mission and was a member of my gun club before he moved south to persue his booming holster business.

I called him to order a shoulder holster for my 4.25" SRH http://www.mernickleholsters.com/sh/sh7b.html but with the thumb break from this holster (which is my belt holster for this same gun) http://www.mernickleholsters.com/fc/fc13r2.html

He told me that he's 6' 4" and carries a full size Colt Government handgun all of the time. He has dozens of handguns that he can carry but a 45acp out of a 1911 is his CCW handgun of choice...

He recommended that I just carry my Colt Delta Elite 10mm in the holsters that I have already bought from him in the past.

Does make a lot of sense because I have everything for this combo already.

I want an excuse for another gun though... ;)

If you go 10mm just select your loads so they don't overpenetrate. There are many light and comfortable 45 choices out there today. Geologist, nice CCW package. Where's your throw down money clip?

Camp Cook, I am not big on using expensive handguns for carry but if it doesn't bother you use the Colt Delta Elite 10mm for carry. If it doesn't workout switch to something else. If one is familiar with safe handling of a 1911A1 I see no reason not to use one for carry. When I use a 1911 for CCW I carry it with one in the chamber and the safety on. Regards, Richard:D

Well guys after much deliberation I finally made my choice today and ordered a Glock 23 40S&W with a Canadian legal length Barsto barrel with factory night sights.

Around 1985 I owned a Glock 19 9mm and it was an awesome compact reliable performer. Other than it was in that little 9mm cartridge which is why I sold it resulting in me unknowningly losing my grandfather rights to prohib handguns here in Canada... B*st*rd Lieberals...

I already load for the 10mm so the only thing I need for practice rounds is the brass I have everything else. I will be looking to purchase the most reliable factory round that enforcement officers use so if anyone has a recommendation for what round I should check out I would appreciate it very much.

I've got a Kimber Tactical Pro in .45ACP with a 106mm barrel and an alloy frame. With a High Noon Topless holster it is quite concealable and only weighs 28 ounces without the mag, I haven't weighed it with.

But you might need hearing aids for the rest of your life after discharging in in your vehicle.:shotgun:
