Which Gun to CCW With???

That is an cool picture of the Kimber.

I even considered purchasing one or a Para Ordanance actualy I considered just about every make including revolvers but I picked the G23 because I am intimately familiar with the action of my last G19 but especially now my G20 10mm that I have carried for wilderness protection for a few years now...

Also there is something about the 40 cal that makes it an awesome round with it being not to big and not to small resulting in 10 rounds in a mag and 1 in the tube of a compact gun...

Safeguardguy I always wear my E.A.R. hearing aids when I carry handguns in remote areas I guess I'll start wearing them in town if I carry that monster... :)

I just got off the phone from Bob Mernickle of Mernickle Holsters http://www.mernickleholsters.com/ he used to live in Mission and was a member of my gun club before he moved south to persue his booming holster business.

I called him to order a shoulder holster for my 4.25" SRH http://www.mernickleholsters.com/sh/sh7b.html but with the thumb break from this holster (which is my belt holster for this same gun) http://www.mernickleholsters.com/fc/fc13r2.html

He told me that he's 6' 4" and carries a full size Colt Government handgun all of the time. He has dozens of handguns that he can carry but a 45acp out of a 1911 is his CCW handgun of choice...

He recommended that I just carry my Colt Delta Elite 10mm in the holsters that I have already bought from him in the past.

Does make a lot of sense because I have everything for this combo already.

I want an excuse for another gun though... ;)

I have a full size Colt Double Eagle Series 90. I can tell you one thing. It is a sweet piece of kit. And I can tell you another thing... if you are going to carry this piece all day long you had better be wearing a belt AND suspenders or your pants will fall down. It is HEAVY. H.E.A.V.Y.

I am looking for suggestions, and am looking for a BUL M-5 Compact to try out.

As for the load? I happened to be in the Buffalo Gun Centre on Saturday and they guy standing next to me was an MD. His buddy is a trauma surgeon who treats LOTS of gunshot wounds, without getting into details. He said his buddy treats 9mm, 10mm, varous other calibres... but very FEW .45 gunshot wounds reach him for repair. Nuff said?

One does not wish to use deadly force to protect themselves or a loved one if there are ANY other alternatives, regardless of how embarrassing they may be. I can assure you that the taking of another human life is not a happy thing and most have trouble handing the trauma of it. Also, you are about to enter a world of grief and hassle in doing so, regardless of the circumstances.

If you have ANY thoughts of protecting yourself with a firearm, do two things if you do nothing else. First, make sure you keep on the right side of the law at all times. Especially in Canada! Secondly, make sure that you take a good training course like the one Safeguardguy puts on.... it is worth every single penny and will teach you plenty to simply avoid the grief before, during and after such a life-chaging incident. Take the course even if you have no intention of ever carrying a gun or protection (legally). And have your kids take it with you. It is male testosterone that killed our young hocket player a few weeks ago here in Toronto. Had he taken the Safeguard course, he would be alive today instead of 6 feet under. Guaranteed.

Regards to all. See you at the next Safeguard course.
