Which handgun models are the best for tiny hands?

Which caliber and for what purpose?

I'm new to guns. No particular purpose or calibre. Since Canada is anal and my hands are tiny I will buy whatever is the smallest and then decide what fun can be had...lol. Choices are going to be limited.

Perhaps one of the smallest handguns that doesn't fall into the prohibited category is the Ruger Bearcat, and the New Vaquero size SAs are pretty friendly towards small hands and/or short fingers as well. I suppose you could choose a J frame S&W revolver, and pay to have a long barrel installed, and have it reclassified to restricted. Pistols are a bit of a problem for folks with small hands because the grip frame must be large enough to accommodate the magazine, and the trend these days is towards large capacity double stack magazines. Even a 1911, has a pretty generous reach from back-strap to trigger face, although shorter triggers can be installed and as mentioned, thin grips can be acquired.

Oops,
I don't want revolvers. All this time I thought revolvers and handgun were in different categories. lol.

I hate to say it but the 422 actually has fairly large grips and wide frame. It's a nice fit in my large to Xlarge glove size hands. It's a slim and light gun but it's not made for small hands.

The Browning 1911 .22 is also one of my suggestions. The 3/4 size would make for a good option for you if you want a rimfire gun. A Ruger Mk III with the boxy plastic grips switched out for something more slim and rounded would also be a pretty good option.

For center fire the guns which I've found seem to fit a lot of smaller hands well are 1911 full size single stack, Ruger SR9, CZ 75/85/SP01 with thin grips. I think that the Browning Hi Power with grips that are more arched instead of the stock boxy feel might work well also.

The Beretta needs HUGE hands to hold it well. It's one of the fattest handguns I've ever held. New grips would not help much at all.

The M&P with the smallest back filler is still not all that small. And it's a bit of a reach to the trigger. The long pull of the Glock would make this a similar issue. Plus when I hold Glocks the term that comes to mind is "blocky". The new Gen4's have improved this but they are still a relatively plump and boxy feeling gun.

My suggestions for the most part are not based on what I feel other than with the 422 which I own. The suggestions are based on what a lot of girls with small hands that I've helped to shoot found comfortable.

Watched a video of it. Looks cool. First revolver that I've seen that doesn't look girly or grandpa-ish.

Um... I think you typed in "442" instead of "422". The 422 suggested by sgt.rock is a rimfire semi auto pistol. The 442 is a short barrel revolver which we won't see up here since it's prohibited.

I have super small hands as well. I picked up an M&P 9mm as my first handgun. I've also run the PPQ navy threaded barrel. That one is great and the paddle style mag release allows you to drop mags without breaking your grip. Not a huge deal but definitely helps. Gen 4 glock 19 or glock 17 also feels similar in trigger reach to the M&P.

Isnt that why the gun stores have display cases filled with different gun in different calibers? Just go try them on for size, its the same as buying a pair of jeans.

Anyone with a walther ppq 22lr care to comment?

I've been thinking about getting one for the wife she has tiny hands. Not being able to try it out I've been on the fence about the risk.

Online reviews seem positive...

Not the Ruger SR9 - the bottom end of the grip gets really big. None of the interchangeable back-strap guns that I have tried fit a small hand.
Steyr 9 or 40 is small and fits well.
Taurus 24 7 is a small .45.
Ruger P345 is a good short-finger gun.
