Which handgun to buy out of this list?

Which handgun would you recommend out of this list and why?

1. Glock 17 fixed sights or MOS (is MOS really worth the extra $150?) $900, $1050

2. Walter PPQ M2 5 inch 9mm $900

3. HK VP9 SFP9-SF $890

4. Smith and Wesson M&P9 9mm range kit. ($670for the whole kit)

5. Colt 1911 $1300


Also, I have small hands/short fingers. Which slide is the easiest to "rack'? I hate ones that are harder to 'rack'.
 
I'm partial to glock. I have a glock 17 and have owned many others. The reasons why are many. But comes down to boring reliability and simplicity. After market is strong.
If I was going to buy another 1911 it would probably be a colt. I love the platform and the aftermarket availability. I would also buy it in 45.
Either of those 2 would be my choice depending on end use. You should be more specific on what you are using it for. Also out of the many others you left off your list.. I would say possibly add a CZ shadow in the choices? I would purchase a shadow 2 over a 1911 at this point since the price is comparable.
What type of shooting you are doing will help people help you.
 
What is your primary purpose of owning these guns? Target shooting, IDPA, IPSC?
Will you just be acquiring one or will there be more in the future?
If your answer is " I will be buying more" then I would say all of them have their merits except if you get the G17 then don't bother with the M&P9 and vise versa.
The MOS will end up costing more as you will need to get the RMR also.
 
Given your small hands and hating the ones that are harder to rack..

Forget the colt 1911 in .45 (the .380 or .22lr would be good though)

The glock 17 would be the 'stiffest' racking of the others, I don't think it is that hard but the walther and mp9 are certainly easier. I also am not fond of the factory trigger on the glock but there are some great after market ones

I've never used the HK so no comment there.
 
Depends on what you plan on doing with it exactly,
I have small hands as well and have used 3 of types listed.

1) 1911 - I find they fit best in the hands and my go to
2) m&p- better fit for me than glocks, but liked the 40 more then the 9. Work horse
3) glock- work horse as sell, but didnt feel "right"
Ppq/hk- never shot before and only handled ppq once

But again depends on what you are looking for. Paper puncher or planning on ipsc/ipda kinda stuff.

Are you a new shootsr as well?
Look into a 22lr, it will be advised by most
 
Still alive nailed it really...they all have their merits...you really need to handle them to find out which one fits you best..as a side note, the vp9 has cocking assist wings that make it very easy to rack...that said ..size wise the M&p is probably the smaller of the bunch..enjoy the search..
 
I have short fingers, and I've shot them all. I find the PPQ an EXCELLENT fit. I actually prefer the M1 as the paddle mag release is easier for me to use one handed. The H&K is good, as is the 1911. I love Glock as it is ubiquitous and JUST RUNS, but I find it a little big for my hands. As Still Alive says, the RDS for your MOS will cost you another $350+.

The trigger in the PPQ is the best out of the box, with the SFP9 a close second.

Sizewise, I find them as follows (smallest to largest):

1)PPQ
2)1911
3)VP9/SFP9
4)M&P
5)Glock
 
I have owned many pistols over the years. I lost count ages ago... only the RCMP now how many.

Other than a really good 1911 (which feed ramps are hard on lead bullets I found) Get the 5" PPQ! They are fantastic! And a good deal as well! Glocks are thousand dollar guns now! When did that happen!?

I haven't shot the HK however, so can't yay it or nay it. But the internet favors the PPQ ;)

I think the glock is out since its the stiffest rack out of the bunch. One of my biggest concerns is the slide being hard to pull back. I have read only good things about the PPQ and HK. I like the look and the price of the MP9 as well.

So iv narrowed it down to

PPQ and HK tied for first and MP9 in close 2nd. Ugh. I didnt want to have to go to the store to try them out. Just wanted to order online and have them deliver it lol.

What is this HK having cocking assit wings to make it easir to ####?

Glock 19 grip is the same girth as a Glock 17, just slightly shorter. Single stack Glock would be thinner, but not many of them around!!!

Get the PPQ... you won't regret it!!! It supplanted my Glock 17 Gen 2 after almost 20 years of use...
 
You really should go to a store and handle them all, the PPQ was one of my choices originally when I was looking to buy my first pistol. I shot one and axed it from the list right then and there, great trigger out the box but the ergonomics of the grip didn't fit my hand. I used to feel that way about glocks but now that I've taken a couple pistol courses I'd like to get a glock, they shoot really well for me. Nice trigger and they point naturally for me. My M&P is great in my hand, 1911's also. You really should go and hold a couple, I don't find glocks hard to rack btw. Both the M&P and the new gen of glocks will have multiple sized backstraps so grip fit with a smaller hand will be adjustable, check out a CZ 75 or 85c. Slimmer in the hand but has a 1911 feel for me, just feels right in the hand.
 
M&P 9. Thinner than HK & PPQ for small hands, similar controls to Glock and save money for all that ammo. It's decent all around. People #### on the trigger but I don't think it's bad. That being said, I've gone hammer guns and single action. You can precock the hammer for an easier rack and lighter trigger. A spec you can find in the 1911 which also comes in 9mm. Get slim grips for it and it'll be about 1" wide which is great for small hands.

Other slimmer guns you can consider are the Kahr TP9, Ruger SR9 or Zastava M70A. Kahr is a single stacked, 9mm and striker fired which makes for a very slim polymer pistol. Never tried it, though. The ruger is a slim striker fired gun with small hands in mind and I find is easy to rack. The M70A is a Tokarev in 9mm and single action like 1911. VERY slim. Under an 1". Playing with it now, but so far I like it.

But you should really go to the gun store and try them out. Everyone is different and have their own preferences. Of all the striker fired polymer pistols I've tried, I really like the FNS9. It points very naturally for me and my sight picture is on point. Looking to get a FNX in the future.

While I prefer and shoot better with the PPQ (better trigger), the slide is easier to rack on the HK due to it's shape and the cocking winglets at the rear of the slide. The PPQ has a triangular shaped slide which could be harder to grip and rack.
The HK comes with 3 interchangeable back straps and 6 grip panels to provide a total of 27 different grip shape combinations. The PPQ comes with only 3 back straps.

I've owned all the guns on your list at one time or another. I still own the PPQ and a 1911. Love both. The SFP 9 was nice too but not as nice (for me) as the PPQ.
 
Go try them out.



My Wheel gun gets the most use. The semi in 22lr, 9mm, 40, 45 sits in the safe. Revolvers RULES cause you don't have to bend over SUCKER :p
