which has more recoil 270 0r 308?

.270, .308 is a puff..

Seriously, 270 is more of a punch than the 308. The 308 is a fantastic cartridge none the less. You can easily hunt with either. What are you looking for?

no the powder would be different wouldn't it, isn't the 270 case a little bigger?

I thought you were asking if the chambering made a difference with all else being equal. With a hotter round you'd get more recoil out of the .270 since it would be faster than the .308, so more kinetic energy. Case length is 2.54 with .441 diam.for the .270win against 2.015 length with .454 diam for the .308win.

The recoil of a 270 is greater than a 308.
I can run through 100 rounds of 308 in an afternoon, no sweat.
After about 40 rounds of 270, I'm looking for my shoulder pad.
Both are normal hunting / plinking loads.

In identical rifles ( say Remy BDL ) the felt recoil will be greater with a .270

If looking for a good hunting cartridge that has mild recoil I suggest not a .308 but a .243

If its the kids or the wifee that generates this question, Ive shot alot of both and the 270 hits the shoulder/cheek less, regardless of the physics. My opinion.
If its yourself that is deciphering, try a .25 or so, and get tempered. Thats the way it worked for me.

I haven't personally used one, but I have a friend that has a 7mm-08 that he has had since he was a kid and says there is very minimal recoil, yet the performance is still very good.

I was going to say the same thing.
If that's what you are looking for the 7mm08 is the answer. I have a Finnlight for a sheep rifle and really like the cartridge.

Get them a .243, or a .204, or a .223
He didn't say he is looking for a hunting rifle just something for them to shoot so yes why not a .243.
