lookin to buy a henry 22lr. leaning towardsthe lever carbine but noticed they dont come with the fully adjustable buck horn sights like the golden boy. i want to mainly shoot the gun with iron sights. gonna be a farm gun so the brass receiver on the golden boy dont mean much. was wondering if anyone has shot both. are the iron sights on the lever carbine good enough.....or is the golden boy worth the extra coin for its sights. hopin this next gun will be the last one ill need for awhile...... so i wanna get this right!

you can buy an in-between model. regular lever gun(without the fake brass) that has an octagonal barrel, and the upgraded sights. or you can buy the regular model and whittle down the front blade sight so that you can see past it. i have two of the regular levers, and a pump with the octagonal barrel. way nicer sights.

I have the carbine and find the plastic stock front blade way to chunky for precision shots out to 25 yards. For the life of me I can't figure why Henry would produce such an inherently accurate rifle with a very decent out of the box trigger, and then equip it with sights that belong on a 50$ dollar crosman BB gun! There is a metal replacement front sight available from Henry that is a slight improvement. As for rear replacement sights you would have to do something custom. I scoured the intranets for hours to find info on a Henry rear sight. The following link is something I bookmarked for a future project. h ttp://www.go2gbo.com/forums/index.php?topic=131154.0

Ever considered a scope? The right scope changed the handling characteristics of mine very little. I can bust grouse heads 4/5 times at 15 yards using CB longs. My little Henry carbine is accurate and sees lots of use. They are amazing for the money. Replacement metal sight is mounted on the rifle in the pics.

Save up your money for a Marlin 39 instead. It might cost a little extra, but they're much nicer rifles and you can rest assured that it will be the last one you will need for quite some time.

Other options worth looking at are the Browning BL-22 or a used Winchester 9422.

Definitely better sights. Nicer maybe in fit and finish. Slight edge in durability. HUGE price difference, and I am willing to bet the Henry will match any of the above in the accuracy dept. with a sweeter trigger to boot!. ;)

Congrats, let us know how she shoots, I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Another option for the rear sights is the skinner sight ghost ring. Works well, fits in easily and comes in steel or brass. Adjusting for windage took a little while, but overall I am happy with it. Still not wild of the henry front sight though.
