Why you can' t buy a Savage is build at Lakefield Ontario, if you whant a more accuracy you can put a basix trigger on it. The basic mark II cost you around 200$ and the best one BV (laminate stock and bull barrel) just cost me 320 $, Basic trigger is around 120 $ cheek on savagearms.com they have a lot of model betwen the models I talk about. For around 440 $ you have a really accurate gun, On savage forum lot of guys say BV plus basix trigger give you the same of brno or other more expensive rifle

SAKO Quad? They are now arriving, interesting concept with interchangeable barrels 17M2, 22lr, 22WM, 17HMR, and in your price range.

It is no secret that Anschutz has dominated the Oylimpic, Rimfire sillouette, and BR scene for more than 40 years!
It is also very evident just how well they are made when one cycles the bolt on any of their rifles.

BTW, the 54 action is identical for their centerfire smallbore rifles as their rimfires, except for the firing pin geometry!

Had 2 of em. neither one worth a damn.

Is that a joke... :| :? :?:

From my since sold Kimber SVT:

50 yards (used to post on a US forum, hence US dime)

200 yards (note sub 1/2" 3 shot cluster, that's 1/4 MOA! The whole group is a hair over MOA, with a .22LR at 200 yards!)

Not worth a damn? :p

I noticed no one mentioned the Ruger 77/22. I have one in 22lr and 22 Hornet, and they both shoot very well. The design may require a shim between the bolt halves, and possibly some trigger work, but for the money I'd say they are pretty good. Another option is to try and find a used Remington 541, as the ones I've shot are fantastic.

Just my two cents.

BigUglyMan,

My Anschutz (with the Model 54 bolt) shoots the best and my Sako shoots noticably better than most Brnos. On a good day with target ammo, the Anschutz will place 3 to 4 bullets in the same hole at 50m. Enuf said? I believe the Anschutz is better than the Kimber. I could have bought a Kimber but they haven't been as consistent as they should. Cooper is as good as the Anschutz but it tends to be even more expensive. Buy an Anschutz with the Model 54 bolt. You won't regret it. Check out their website; they have an English version. Most Olympic medals are won with Anschutz rifles. You if you want supreme accuracy buy the heavy barrel single shot (Model 54.18MS??) Wholesale sports in Lethbridge AB sells Anschutz.

I just put the first couple boxes of ammo through my Marlin 2000L and it looks real promising, may not be in the same league as some of these but it does shoot for the price.

Where is Kimber. Hope they are in Oregon where they belong. Had 2 of em. neither one worth a damn.

You must be kidding, please elaborate if you want to trash talk not one but 2 Kimbers. Most guys dream of owning one of these guns.

My experience with Kimber of Oregon was not great either. The 222 was mediocre, accuracy-wise, and the rimfire certainly didn't live up to it's hype either. Had a couple of old mossberg 22's that would outshoot it. My 788-222 Remington would shoot rings around the Kimber. Sold them both and took a licking on them. I have heard good things about more recent offerings, but you know....once bitten, twice shy!! Regards, Eagleye.

The 1416 is good and solid, great cycling and all, but it has wood and stock design that will not do it for me anyway (I have it)
If you want a gun that is just awesome, get a CZ 452 LUX in 22 mag (hand pick the wood if poss.) The Turkish walnut is so sweet, and the caliber is a fun cal to shoot, bridges the gap from LR to centerfire, and the 17 just don't seem to have that quality.
If LR is a must then a single shot sporter in a KKJ/M Walther is a fine rifle.
And if you got lots of coin a 1700 series Anschutz (walnut) is nice(54 action).
Can't say enough about the Lux , and the iron sights will hold back the urge for optics , they rock, easy to setup for ammo used , and quick to slide that rear sight to the range of the intended target.
Another cool rig is the Full Stock CZ 452 (also has these wonderful sights), comes in LR only:( , a totally sweet rifle , if your into perfect balance and looks. :)
Side note ; the american cz 452's wood sucks, looks like stained birch:eek: ;)

Just my two cents, if you can aquire one...this past weekend Silverback and I
shot my pre-WW2 22 LR muaser. It has a T10 Weaver scope and after a very brief initial sight in, Silverback shot a small group of 4 shots at 100 yards. (ES350B mauser)
If he had not pulled one, opening the 4 shots to one inch, the group would have been just under 3/4s of an inch!
There are versions of this as a repeater, but there are more single shots around, so to speak if you can find any 22 mauser variant....
PS, from the bench using PMC match ammo.
