I'm looking to purchase a hunting magazine subscription and I'm not sure which magazine subscription is worth it.

I'm going to be doing mainly deer and bear hunting in Southeastern Ontario.

I was looking into Field and Stream, but I wanted to check and see on here if anyone has any different magazines that would be worth getting a subscription.

Thanks in advance for any input,

Dan

I like magazines with a more local focus. Field & Stream, Outdoor Life, etc., tend to have a lot of articles that I have no interest in. I like magazines like Alberta Outdoorsmen, Western Sportsman, etc. I'm sure Ontario must have a few publications that are focused on Ontario, it's nice to have articles written about your backyard.

I have yet to find a magazine that is worth it. The Last one I subscribed to was

The Canadian Hunting and Shooting Magazine.

I still havent figured out what happened to them. The only magazines I have ever kept.

I would go more local as well and buy a few copy's first to see if you like them. Ontario out of doors and Ontario monster whitetails are a couple of good ones.

You get better and more answers in these fine pages, which I know by now, from reading gun and hunting magazines, are more than often, used by famous gun and hunting writers for their research, before printing their stories :)

Field&Stream and Outdoor Life tend to be all about U.S based hunting and their big push for QDM and food plots. Ontario Out of Doors and and some of the other regional Canadian publications might be more pertinent to your type of interests.

Before you subscribe to an American magazine, make sure you check out the foreign subscription rates. Most American magazines charge 2-3 times the domestic price to have it mailed out of country.

I would agree with Scott N, local articles are much more interesting to read. I also like Big Buck, that magazine covers mostly the west, but there are occasional stories from the eastern provinces as well.

I subscribe to F&S, Shooting Sportsman, and windfowl. The reason I like F&S is to see what other ppl do with their time. I have no interest in noodling cats, catching gators, or shooting deer for that matter (can't stand venison). But it's sure is fun to read about a large variety of topics than just reading OOD (which I also read).
