Which Husqvarna to get....

"Budget" is not quantifiable but I was grouping it with the Remington 700 and Savage 110. But I admit I didn’t know what the 1640 sold for when new.
Can you explain why Trade Ex sells 1900s for about 30% more than 1600 series?
Those original optional Timneys, were they made in the USA? I have one that is so stamped but I thought it was aftermarket.

The only reason why the 1900 are more expensive than the 1640 is availability. Offer and demand. The 1640/1600 should be right up at the Brno value, but since the later are less available, then, they are more expensive. Sweden's guns law being what it is, they had to make choices; either keeping the newer rifles and unlike general thought is, the main workhorse for moose hunting since decades is the 30-06, not the 6.5X55... and this reflects by the offer; much less 6.5X55 than 30-06 comes from Sweden, and it's not because they keep the 6.5X55 for themselves, as under it's former power, does not meet the minimum energy level required by the new laws. So in the future, a 1640 / 1600 in 6.5X55 will worth more than a '06...

The Timney triggers were made in the USA for Tradewinds who sold it to HVA.

Apparently those Timney triggers were discontinued long ago. Only option for a 1640 now is the Huber which is just a single piece ball bearing type add-on. Although supposedly it is very effective.

Very interesting about the cartridges in Sweden...

They disappeared with Tradewinds....

The Svenska Jägareförbundet (Hunter's Association) are collecting datas since the early 2000 covering several subjects about moose hunting. This includes caliber, bullet weight / type, the distance the animal fell after being hit etc, etc..
Since the early '90, the 30-06 have arise to the top of moose hunting caliber, 308 Win being close. The 6.5X55 was second mostly used caliber in the early '90 but now is going down, in profit of the 9.3X62 and 300 WM for example.

The minimum energy requirement for moose hunting in Sweden is 2000 joules @ 100m (1475 ft-lbs) for bullets above 10 grams (over 154 grains) and 2700 joules @ 100m (1991 ft-lbs) for bullets between 9 and 10 grams (139 to 154 grains), which very few 6.5X55 commercial ammo will achieve. The 6.5X55 caliber is also the minimum legal caliber for moose hunting.

Here's were they stand right now with the 6.5X55 for moose hunting, while Europe are pushing for led free bullets.

So, in the end I picked up a 1640 in 9.3. It's one of the few HVA rifles that I've never owned, plus with the info here....seemed obvious.
