Which IPSC Holster?

Hey all,

I am trying to get some opinion on holsters and what are maybe some pros and cons that I am not aware of. I have used a Ghost Stinger which I loved for adjustability in every which way however I got a new pistol for limited division and it has limited options for holsters due to a thumb rest.

Basically these are my options:

DAA Alpha X race holster which is roughly $320 plus tax
New Ghost The One race holster for $150 Plus tax
Red Hill Tactical normal Holster for $200
Ernie Hill race for $225 plus tax

I'd prefer the Red Hill Tactical due to it not being a race holster however I do like the DAA Alpha X insert system where if I buy a new gun, I just get a new insert and it works.

Any pros and cons to holsters? I've never used a race style and I do 2-3 gun so that might change opinion. Are the DAA Alpha X worth the $300. The Ghost holster would work, all negatives to it?

Suggestion and opinions welcomed.

Th ghost has two positive lock positions, ernie hills are adaptable too, or lose the thumb shelf and have more options.

check out 6mmbr I think they had a write up on there. Not sure where I saw it but not too much different depending on the dollars U wish to spend jeff

I have both of the DAA holsters, race master and the Alpha X. They both use same inserts, they both "feel" the same on the draw to me. Unless you look down you wouldn't know which one you're using. An "A" class shooter I know prefers the "old" race master because it has the additional rigidity supplied by the brace at bottom of holster, that rests on your hip. The new race master does NOT have this and to this end the holster does actually have a bit more movement. I don't notice it at all but then again I'm not an A shooter. The ease of adjustment for the Alpha X is nice however. In my opinion if money is important to you, go with the "old" version, its great. If you are one that has to have the latest spend the extra $$$$ and get the Alpha X.
 
I have the DAA Racer holster. Works great and is cheaper than the other DAAs. I have a friend with a Ghost and has had a few adjustment issues with the tension release. The DAA was slick right out of the box.

Thanks Aragon and Calvados .. those are the sort of experiences I am looking for. It would be nice to try before I buy but I don't think that possible. Bahumba. Back to youtube videos.
 
trust me when i say a holster will not make you shoot faster.
It may allow a 1.20 draw/first alpha, but it is all in the training.

Train with a bladetech and you'll still be able to get a 1.20 if you train enough,
Speed holsters allow for some slop and reduce draw error.

A full lift would keep your arms tight to your body allowing a full push 'out'.
I may or may not know what i'm talking about, but i may also be top field.

I don't really like bladetech holsters. I had one and sold it after I held it in my hands as there is no adjustability. I also do prefer a normal style holster vs a race holster and I am not buying one to think it will make me faster.

I will have to disagree with you on this. For me with a Bladetech it was 1.14 for the draw and an A. With the Ghost The One it is 1.01. I switched holsters due to the lack of options for the Shadow 2 when they first came out. The increased speed was just a nice little extra.
 
cereal83, it might depend on what gun you are using. I bought The One for the CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow. It fit that gun like a glove. When my Shadow 2 came it had a less rounded trigger guard than the original Shadow. The 2 does not fit the holster as well. If I had the choice again I'd probably go with either DAA
 
AHiltz ... It's a CZ TS Orange.... I looked into the Ghost The One and it has been modified now to support the Shadow 2 so I was looking at that has it was alot cheaper, had better support compred to something that just locks the trigger.

Thats partially why I was asking for pros or cons. I do 3gun and if the gun falls out of the holster, I get a DQ but from my understanding, if it is locked in a racegun, it's not going anywhere.
 
I run with the DAA race master, and it was well worth the money. It takes me only a minute to switch between my guns in the 1911 chassis (because I have the muzzle support). Fast and reliable draw for me.

It's like any other race holster in that if the locking mechanism is in the locked position the gun will not come out. The issue with the Shadow 2 is the play within the holster while locked.
 
I've got a or CR speed also a DAA Racemaster, I like the DAA for shooting open but I've been using a Red Hill Tactical for the Last season in Standard.

I like it a lot more than the Bladetech for the adjustability and the fit is great. For standard I'd go with the RHT.

Edit: Forgot I won a Safariland speed holster last season that I haven't played with much but I could see it replacing my DAA. DAA tends to lock up solid with the Aluminum PT grips unless my draw is perfectly straight out.
