I'd pick the .300Mag over the 7mmMag. Had both and now I use a .338Mag and a .270 Win. for the majority of my hunting.

Unless you are hunting something big and nasty, I see little difference in the two.
I'll vote the 7mm Rem Mag just because you want us to make a choice.

welll...it seems like everyone 'out here' is pretty big on 7mm

For an all-arounder I'd pick the .300.

I don't own or shoot on a regular bssis either one. I don't need the extra power they provide.
I was at one point interested in long range shooting. The lack of range length and practicality postponed the whole deal, but from a cummulative knowledge gathering, I compiled many factors that played a role in my choice and decided that 7mm is better for hunting applications.
300 WM gets an advantage only because of the large military applications and their subsequent developement.
If I was to buy one now, the cost factor would lead me to the 300, as I reload for the 308 and the bullets are there already, but no other reason.

you've got people that know exactly what they want all the time. I'm not one of them. Choosing is probably the wors nightmare of my life. But isn't it fun when we wake up? So is buyer's remorse. I hate them both.
