WHich is best? (Hunting cal)

I do most of my hunting and shooting with a 300WM but I vote 7mm Rem Mag. It doesn't kick too much, plenty of power and a flatter trajectory than most can use. I'd get the 7 if I were to do it all over again...(or maybe a 270 or 30/06 ).

I'd probably go 7mm - less recoil, and more efficient high-bc bullets available. And enough power to 'get the job done' at stupidly long ranges

I'd go with the 300, just because I'm partial to 30s over 7s. Completely subjective, I know.

I choose 7.62x39mm Haven't you seen Full Metal Jacket? Where that VC sniper (who turned out to be a chick) was sniping those GI's from what looked like 500 yards with open sights? Oh yeah, 7.62x39 all the way Billy goats beware!!

I have both but have no preference to either, I hunt with one or the other just because of the barrel length, the caliber is almost equal for what I do.

And interestingly...300 seems to take the lead by a large margin....

Am I incorrect in assuming both these cartridges have similiar ballistics?...or is 300 really that much hotter/flatter shooting?

Nope. 7mm is hotter....7mm is flatter. 300 makes bigger holes and delivers more energy.

.300 starts with a bigger hole.... all else being equal.

inside 200 yards (maybe 250 with Leverevolution ammo), a hotloaded 45:70 or .450 Marlin will outperform both of them together

i used a 340 wea for years never felt undergunned, that was elk, moose, bears, etc, i sold that rifle for a few years used a .308 win,first pile of griz crap and i bought a .338 win, now i am happy again, haaaaaa

True... the 7mm Mag seems to be very much like the .30-06 in recoil.. to me at least...

I've been using a 7mm RM for years great hunting gun.

But I just bought a 300WM this spring, Why I bought it ?? I don't know but I convinced the wife that I deserved a new rifle so I bought it. And I did'nt have a 300 WM yet.
