I'm planning to buy a new .308 stainless steel rifle. I've narrowed my choice to a Savage or Tikka. Any comments on which is better?

Chevy....

Better for what?
as a club,
as a paperweight,
as a hunting rifle
as a survival rifle
as a bench rest gun....
What model Savage and tikka actually make a few different models...

I like my savage but It's not for anything less then 200 yds...

All a matter of opinion, I don't think you can go wrong with either one. I chose Tikka myself. I have one in 7mm-08 (blued) and one in 22-50 (SS). I like the tikka for the weight and the out o fthe box accuracy, although Savage is supposed ot be equally as accurate.

The Tikka does not come in a true Short Action which I believe the Savage does.

Savage also has some after market accessories such as stocks, replacement bbls etc.

In my opinion the Tikka is prettier but to many on this board, the Tikka is ugly.

Is price a factor? if so you can get the Stevens 200 (under $400) and upgrade the stock and possibly trigger later as it is basically and older Savage but with a cheap plastic stock.

I believe the Stevens has an internal blind box mag while the Tikka uses a removable mag. I am a fan of removable mags but some prefer the internal mags.

I have a tikka as well and a friend of mine just bought a savage 14 american classic. after shooting both i MUCH prefer my tikka over the savage. Lots will argue on these forums about which is better. both rifles are accurate but i really didnt like the accutrigger on the savage.. I just love my tikka.

Check out the Savage Model 14 American Classic, it is in the same class as the Ruger M77, Remington 700 CDL. It has an American walnut stock.

My vote is for the Old-World Craftsmanship of the Finns anyday.

...no one knows injection-moulding better. They employ only the most skilled "Old world European toy makers" for design and fitment of the Plastique parts on the T-3. True innovation in action!!!.

JK guys:p...couldn't resist:stirthepot2:

Mad Mikey ;)

You will get similar acuracy out of a savage, you can also get a savage with a detachable mag. Go to the store and feel both of them, If there is one that feels better to you, then get it.

I suppose if I had to choose between the 2 of these plastic economy hunting rifles I'd choose the Tikka, mostly to avoid the Big Nose Indian on the Savage.

Although the Tikkas are overpriced.

:D

Even better is one chambered in 6.5x55 swede. :)

Well I can honestly say I have multiple Tikka rifles and have multiple savage rifles in all kinds of cartridges. As for a hunting rifle goes, I would grab a Tikka.
As for a target rifle, becides my F-class savage, i would grab a Tikka.
