I have a Ruger M77 mkII which has a laminated stock. If I put a synthetic stock on it, how much lighter would my rifle be? I don't think a couple ounces is worth a hundred $$. I know synthetic would be lighter...

synthetic stocks will vary from heavy 38 ounce injection molded tupperware, like a Hogue, to a 22 ounce fiberglass stock like a Mcmillan Edge, Wildcat Composites, Basner, etc

a pound lighter eh. that would be worth it to me to make the switch, i can get a ramline stock for about $150, if it saves a pound i think it would be worth it

I have a ruger laminate, it is definitely heaver than a Ram Line. But Ram Line stocks suck and are actually a true PLASTIC stock. I have had 2 of them. I still have one on a 308 which I use regularly. They work but suck.

Those Ram-lines are cheap, but you'll probably find a better quality stock for a little more. Also, take your stock off, go to a shop and feel the weight difference between the two. It probably won't feel like that much, as the Ruger is generally a heavy rifle as is. If you do want to go synthetic, ask for opinions on different aftermarket stocks. My buddy has a Ram-line on his Enfield, and it is a definate improvment on an Enfield, but it's probably a step down for your Ruger. Check out the different companies, and I know there are alot of folks on this board who have good quality stuff on their rifles. Todd Bartell and Crazy Davey come to mind right off the bat. Maybe PM them on their thoughts on who builds a good quality lightweight stock.

i sure wouln't switch from a ruger laminate to a ramline. most light weight synthetics are going to run around $500 and up. ramlines are definatly bottom of the barrel.
