Which kind of SVT-40 trigger guard you have on your rifle?

Sweet rifle my friend:) So your SVT 38 have a wide trigger guard... What if the soviet changed for the narrow type later because they were more pratical to use with gloved hands?? Just a new guess that hit my brain:p

That could definately be true - the SVT38 was originally used in The Winter War and besides the complaints of being too complicated (as was also the case from many Russian's above the SVT40, as well), they may have also complained about the trigger guard being too wide...

I found an non-refurb 1940 dated Tula SVT-40 with US vet capture papers with a narrow trigger guard. This is an all matching non-refurb non SA captured rifle.

So the trigger guard mystery endures...

Now that I saw a couples of non-refurbs, all matching SVT-38 made both by Tula and Ishevsk I can tell that all of them had the wide trigger guard.

I saw just a few all-matching non-refurb SVT-40 (they are rare!), but all of those I saw were with the narrow trigger guard.

Since I never saw any AVT-40, I can't talk about those.

I'm pretty sure the wide trigger guard SVT-40 are all refurbs that used leftover SVT-38 parts (and/or maybe AVT-40 parts). The narrower trigger guard was clearly an SVT-40 improvement over the SVT-38 for better handling the rifle and was also decreasing the weight of the rifle a bit (like the lightening cuts on the bolt carrier on the SVT-40)
