Which lever .22?

Got it.

Thanks to the tips from this forum i decided to venture out to Ellwood Epps yesterday, 4.5 hour drive with wind gusts to 100...fun and worth it:)

I purchased the Marlin golden 39A. Even better quality than i thought, and looks amazing. The wood of the firearm was much darker than i thought and shows the wood grain well, i prefer the darker wood anyhow. Gun is very heavy, but for quality sometimes weight needs to be sacrificed.

I will be taking her to the range in the next day or so, really hyped to get it out. I ended up buying a couple bricks of various ammo, i want to see which ammo groups the best.
Here's some pics. Thanks again for all the info on firearm stores, i would be waiting for ++months if i went through S.I.R.

Nice gun. Consider a peep sight for it in the future. On a lever gun its much nicer than the buckhorn sight and a scope takes away from their utility IMO.

Winchesters are nice and all that but I still love the Marlins and they are the brick sh**houses of this industry no doubt. It is surprising that with so many out there and surviving so well that there arent more for sale. Just says how much people like to keep them. Heavy yes but they are solid and tough so ya gotta like that. I always preferred the curved pistol grip too. Nice buy. Enjoy. Your relatives will be fighting over it after you go to the happy hunting grounds hopefully many years from now.

I second the suggestion for a peep sight. i just put an XS sight systems ghost ring rear and white line front on my Marlin 39M. Well worth the $90 US from Brownell's and it preserves the original handling characteristics of the rifle.

You've got yourself one helluva good gun there that will last you a long time. My Dad has a 39A that he got in the '70's I believe. Still shoots and operates like new. It has a Redfield 4X scope on it and personally it doesn't detract from it's utility at all but that's just my opinion. What sights you want to go with are up to you. It'll be a great gun no matter what!

I agree with all the posts re: aftermarket sight systems. The factory sights are terrible, i have used buckhorn sights in the past with good results...but i find the front post difficult to pick out on the marlin (maybe its my eyes that fails me).

Looked at many options. As mentioned above the XS sights seem clean and well built, fast target acquisition too. Plan on using the buckhorns for now, but am planning on getting XS sigths this summer.

Thanks again.

I just put a Williams peep on my Marlin 30-30 and I must admit it looks like it belongs. It would look strange scoped to say the least. I looked at them in the site but I think the Williams is much more adjustable and allows the same sight to be used with a variety of beads/posts as well as different heights of same. Huge height adjustment along with everything else so should be a hoot to set up. I got the Williams for $30 off of the EE delivered in pretty nice shape. Check around-you may be surprised when you ask around. $130 at the dealer for the same model. Damn I love the EE.:)
