which loctite??

The recomended loctite for small fastners 1/4 and smaller is the purple loctite 222MS .

X3 on Loctite 222. I've used it for years on very small fasteners on aircraft as well as mounts, rings and sights with very good success. It adds that little extra security but will break away when required. A bit of heat will soften any Loctite product to ease removal of the fastener. IMHO, stay away from the red Loctites - 262 is intended for larger fasteners and takes a significantly higher force to break free, the chance of ruining/shearing a small screw is almost inevitable. The other red you might see is the 609 retaining compound, this stuff holds beyond belief use it and you will be screwed. The green 292 is a wicking compound with very high shear properties as well and again IMHO will eventually cause you grief with small fasteners. My $0.02.

Cheers

A fellow brought me a rifle that he had used red loctite on tiny screws that factory puts in the receiver to mount bases. He had totally screwed up the screw slot trying to get them out. I had to carefully drill them out on a drill press and use an extractor. So, IMHO either avoid loctite or make sure that you use one that is easily removable, whatever colour that may be.

Well wce323078, now that you have been told to use red, green, blue and purple Locktite and various combinations thereof and of course nothing at all, I would be very interested to know what you are going to do.

I guess another thing to do is what Loctite recommends - 222 is their recommendation for small fasteners that will require removal.
