Yes they are loosely based on the Garand but a guy on a Swedish forum managed to get an m1a through (via Germany) using the same logic I've presented above and "loosely based" is still a form of "based".
The m305 is a better way to reach my goal than an m1a because I can get the m305 from Canada (which according to how far my research has gotten so far is a LOT easier than getting the gun from the USA) and the m305 is also less expensive.
If it comes down to that I have to buy an m1a then I'll just save some more money and get the gun by next hunting season, but if I have to buy some super rare prototype gun then I'll just pass (or buy a Garand), thank you. The bm59 is very unprobable that I get a license for since it's closer related to it's military counterpart than the m1a or m305 is to theirs.
