Which magazine is it?

Hi, I have what looks to be (only because it is near identical to mine) a 303 magazine. it doesn't fit mine at all and so I am wondering how do you tell which rifle it fits into.

On the back spine(?) there is an 'R' and below it there is a '4'.

If the rifle is a Lee-Enfield .303, a magazine for a No 4 will not fit in a Mark III (and vice versa).

I suspect that your rifle is a SMLE Mark III* and the magazine you describe is from a No 4 rifle.

That is for a Lee Enfield No.1 Mk3. they are slightly different then the No.4 type mags, which i am going to assume is what you have.
