A while back I had to send in a S&W 686 for warranty repair. I was surprised to find out that there were only two authorized S&W repair centres in Canada.

It took pretty close to a year to get my pistol back which I found out was fairly normal if your didn't have some kind of local relationship with the warranty shop.

This experience is really making it hard to ever purchase another S&W product even though I own several and have been quite pleased with my S&W's until the warranty issue.

I posted a question on CGN asking if this was a normal wait time and to my surprise some had been waiting much longer than a year and I even had some snarky comments asking if I wanted good service or quick service. Seriously, over a year just to get "good service".

So my question is what kind of wait times have you experienced when sending in your firearm for warranty repair to other manufactures?

I am looking for responses where the repair centre is not local to you, you don't have a relationship with the people repairing the firearm (usually due to geographic reasons), you can't go get Joe a Timmies while he fixes your firearm, you have to send it in and wait.

Thanks

The front sight on my wife's Ruger Single Ten was mounted way off center. I sent it in and had it back in three weeks. That being said, I still prefer S&Ws guns.

Thanks for the response. I like my S&W's as well, this is why this was so painful.

This is exactly the short and concise response I am looking for so hopefully more people will respond with their experiences.

STI. I had a guide rod with captive spring break on my STI 2011 It had about 10,000rds. I called Freedom Ventures and sent broken one to them in Halifax and they sent me a brand new one. All told it took about 1 week. Freedom Ventures is as sponsor on this site and really stand behind their products.

Taurus has a lifetime warranty on their guns, if I remember correctly you have to ship the gun to Miami and then wait for it to get fixed, so definitely not the fastest.

I've bought a BNIB taurus 608 a few weeks ago because of their lifetime warranty that follows the gun weather your the first or the 20th owner. Figured that since there's plenty of negative reviews and lots of problems with that revolver better have the "best" warranty in the business so if I end-up with a lemon they will make it right. Plus that the price was about $200 less than the other dealers.

After speaking with Sean from Freedom Ventures he confirmed that Taurus only warrants their guns for one year in Canada and after digging a bit I found that the service centre was a small business based in Quebec witch I've never heard of... I've cancelled the purchase and bought a 4.2 stainless GP100 witch is $250 more but probably less trouble down the road!

Murray Charlton who in turn sent it to Smith but it seems they cant be bothered to find out any updates, i would never send them anything else to repair. Originally they told me i would get it back within a couple of weeks lol!

hey I would follow up if I was you, there is no reason for a repair to take so long.

x2. Mine's been there for over 10 months now. I'm guessing I won't be seeing it back for a couple of years.    I like S&W but won't be buying another one anytime soon. Colt is also bad. Ruger and Samson Manufacturing...they are absolutely the best.

When I first starting looking into if it was normal for a Canadian S&W warranty to take many months I found out it was normal if you just sent it in and had no relationship with the gunsmith. I was also surprised to find that some had taken more than a year and were still waiting.

I then checked on some US S&W forums and found that people were saying that it was taking many months to get a response from S&W for a estimate on repair work so if your pistol is with S&W USA I would agree that it's going to be a long time before you see it again. In fairness to Murray Charlton, they are probably just as frustrated with S&W USA not getting back to them so they can respond to your inquiry.

I agree some things are out of their control, but why should your relashionship or lack of make any difference to service times? Funny how another CGN'er gave me the contact info to get in touch with S&W customer service to try and get an answer.
Thanks goes out to Jackrabbit!

I totally agree that it's frustrating that for us who happen to be remote and have no relationship with the gunsmith that we have to suffer with completely unreasonable wait times. This is why I started this thread, I wanted to see how other manufacturers were doing.

It's really frustrating as I have several S&W's and I happen to like them a lot but having 2 warranty centres who both seem to have really long wait times really has me questioning if I ever should purchase S&W again. At the very least I will not go for the free warranty and pay and have it fixed locally even if it's something that should be covered by warranty.

Same boat here, i told them next time i will be purchasing parts and having it done locally.
Prb would have had it back by now.I like Smith product have 3 altogether.

ive just always pretty much assumed im on my own if anything breaks.
so i honestly wouldnt send any firearm to a repair center, id just take it to my gunsmith and have him work on it.

that said i dont have a gunsmith.

ive just done everything myself so far.
i guess ive been lucky, 40+ years and so far nothing i couldnt handle.

oh i shouldnt say that, i had Dlask do some work for me and he was great.
but that was a new gun build not a repair.

glock has the best warrenty..... 95% of any issues can be fixed by the owner..... if not police ord. does a great warrenty service.

I just sent my Glock 23 in because of a cracked frame. 13 years old (not the original owner either) and they are replacing the frame for free and paying shipping both ways. I was never much of a Glock fan but I must admit they have won me over.
