I'm still seriously considering getting a mauser kar98k, and I was wondering which variant I should get. I've got it narrowed down to three:

Czech VZ 24
Yugo M48
Pre-1944 German Mauser (Russian capture)

Which one do you guys think is the best one?

in order: rc-vz-m48

yugos arent as smooth as the others...theres some nice rc's out there but the vz will be in nicer shape so its all up to your tastes

VZ 24 ? do the numbers match or are they forced matched?I liked my M48BO when i had it and i'm thinking of getting another one cuz i don't want to shoot my minty WW2 German K98 too much .

Quit beating it to death, unless you're really interested in the history, then knock yourself out and look for one that interests you the most historically. They will all shoot very well if they are in good condition. If you're interested in fit, finish or stock style, laminated or solid wood, walnut, beech or teak take your pick. Now there is another crux, are you looking for a prewar or wartime or postwar produced rifle. Are you looking for easily available ammo?
If you're just looking for a shooter, all of the rifles you mentioned will be fine. I personally would like to inspect the rifle before buying or at least have return privileges if not satisfied. Just remember, all of the rifles you mention are refurbs and will not be perfect. I'm actually a little surprised at the prices being asked by the dealers. I'm sure they're not gouging, considering their costs, I'm just surprised how quickly they've gotten out of reach for so many people. There can't be very many available.

One thing for sure, you snooze or procrastinate for to long and you will definitely miss out. They won't be available forever.
