Which mosin nagant platform should I use to start a archangel project with?

That's what I did, I bought 2 bubba ones. A short Polish mosin that had the bayo removed and in a ati stock with a belt bolt, and a long one that is a nice pre war one in a Boyd's thumb hole stock with a rock solid mount. I have had a few archangel mosins and never liked them enough to hold on to one, mostly as the mags aren't so good

OP, there is an article in a 2015 issue of Inside Military Surplus by a man named Abe Elias.

He uses a 91/30 to do exactly what you want to do - with the addition of a Timney trigger and a cut-down barrel (cut to 22"). You may be able to find the article online.

In the article, Elias shows 100 yd targets that highlight the improvement that can be achieved, and it is impressive.

One thing about the Mosin Nagant is that, with a decent barrel already present, a little tweaking can frequently result in a lot of improved performance... :yingyang:

One popular "accurizing" kit in the U.S. consists of little more than a set of shims...

One dare not say anything in the milsurp forum for fear of certain death. I was given a free mosin that was counterbored 4”
into the bbl. Didn’t shoot well at all. I chopped it down to 20”, recrowned it and put a scout scope mounted to the removed rear-sight position. Plunked the works into an Archangel stock. I applied up pressure to the barrel.
The accuracy gain was amazing. Stiffer barrel with rifling and tighter bore diameter all the way to the muzzle.

Bingo; with a decent barrel, a lot of gain can be had from even a little tinkering to a Mosin...

And, at this point, there are enough shoddy/sportered Mosin's out there that a project gun can be had with little to no guilt.... :yingyang:
