Looking to mount an eotech on my armalite 16" (with carry handle and mid length handguards). Which mount to use? From what I have seen some mounts attach to carry handle as well as front site but it looks like they are for short handguard configuration. Is there a model that simply floats ahead of the carry handle and would co-witness alright with the eotech? wish I had the money for a flat-top but looks like I will have to go this route.

Thanks for your help.

Before I swapped out my A2 upper on my 20" Colt for a flat top upper I used a Precision Reflex, Inc. mount with my holosight:

I got this from Wolverine—they also sell (or did when I was looking) the ARMS equivalent mount which is a bit more robust. It worked OK for me, and allowed co-witnessing of the iron sights but as Armedsask says, you do want a flat top. The cost of one of these mounts will run you maybe 25% or 30% (or more) of the cost of a new upper, which, if you've got access to someone who knows a bit about AR's, are installed easily.

A new flattop upper runs from $180 to $200, with the lower end being stripped, higher complete.

They take about 2 minutes to switch out with a vice, reciever block, and barrel wrench.

The mount you want would probably cost just as much or more, and in the long run, not as nice. I think you should go flattop.

Just my opinion, though.

X2 for Pavehammer's idea

I have the PRI mount, I got a really good deal on mine ($40) but they retail for just over $100 US new. Pavehammer is probably on the right track, if you want a flattop then buy one and sell your A2 upper. It will hardly end up costing you much in the end.
