Hi folks,

About to receive a BCL mk7 (hold the guffaws please), which muzzle device should I be considering?

Brake / comp / linear comp ?

If you have a preferred model, please share it with me!

On my BCL 102 I use the precision armament M4-72, which makes the gun significantly softer to shoot, but loud as heck. Wouldn't use it next to other people.

What is your intended purpose for the muzzle device? reduced recoil? less muzzle rise? reduced perceived sound?

Well, I was told the existing flash hinder is ugly and useless, so I was thinking why not upgrade.

308 as a whole doesn't hurt me much from my M14, I'm guessing the BCL will be softer still due to its buffer.

If I could reduce the recoil of it somewhat and not piss off my range mates I guess it might be useful.

Do linear comps do anything for recoil? What about the muzzle brake cover type things?

I do plan on shooting prone on dirt/sand on a regular basis.

I'll second the VG6 Gamma and use them on 223 and 9mm carbines as well but if you plan on hunting with the rifle they are very unpleasant to the shooter and those around you in the field without ear protection.

I've got the Smith USCG brake on mine and it is very effective with recoil and muzzle rise. It will damn near knock bystanders unconscious if they're level with your muzzle though. My only gripe is how long the 5/8x24 version is compared to the M14 equivalent for some unknown reason.

My Troy 102 was jumping off the table with the stock birdcage. I upgraded to a Mapleridge Armoury Rock Solid and it helped a ton. Not perfect, but I don’t know what would be. I have no problem recommending it.

Great choice on the solid, best in their line up. Because of the dual design, compensator/brake.

Great review

Omg guns are loud!!!

...wear ear pro, double up with cheap foamies inside.

As for hunting 1-2 shots max out in the open...if you are worried, use microphone electronic earmuffs, will actually increase your surround sound hearing until you shoot.
