Which New Press to Get

I've decided on the XL650. Here are some quotes I've received:

Dillon - $566.95
Ellwood Epps - $650
P&D Enterprises - $755
Custom Reloading Services - $637
Murray Gardner - $653
The Shooting Edge - $556.95 (WOW)
CRAFM - ??? (Hasn't replied to my e-mail, maybe because it wasn't in french, lol)

I guess the only decision left is deciding/guesstimating whether it's cheaper buying direct. Anyone have experience with the shipping, duty, and tax costs involved with buying direct?

I have a LnL; I bout it from Natchez in the States for $379 US and had it shipped to the border. I bought the full setup with a case feeder, the discs for small and large pistol cases, extra bushings, and a bunch of other stuff and I probably saved $200 over buying it on this side (I did pay the taxes by the way).

A friend has a Dillon SDB; he did not have a powder lockout die on his and he has paid for it with a ruptured barrel on his new Sig 226 Elite.

The only two I would look at if you plan to shoot more than a few hundred rounds per month are the LnL or the 650XL. I went with the LnL since the extras for other calibers was much cheaper.

I can't believe the price that The Shooting Edge is advertising on their website. I have an e-mail into them to confirm. If that pricing is correct than I think we have a winner!
 
make sure that they are all including one caliber convertion.
Shooting Edge does sound cheap. Bought my 550b from brad and john at
custom reloading great experience.

the shooting edge has none in stock and wont take orders for any more, I bought a press just over a week ago and tried them. elmwood epps sold me mine for 625. it is as cheep as I could find in Canada in stock. call them up. I am sure they will set you up.
 
I ordered a Hornady lock n load AP. I looked at the dillon but it would Cost me an arm and a leg by the time I bought all the caliber conversion kits that I would need.
 
ok alot of guys on here have the blue flu but have u looked at the RCBS Pro 2000 auto ? i was shopping around last year and i bought the 2000 and it's a great bang for the $ ,i did buy it from budgetshooter (Henry N ) , It's super fast to change cal's on and it has the best primer system , The Hornady LNL ap was my second choice, dillion is good but it's a bugger to change cal's on thats why the loaded guy's on here have one for every cal they load. just my 2cent's

Takes less than 10 min on my 550b. the first time does take a bit longer but once you got it its no problem. I load for three caliber 7mm-08, 7mm rem mag and 9mm. requires changing the plates and dies for the rifles. i did buy one quick change kit for the 9mm. and will pick up one more when funds allow.:D
 
I'm still waiting on The Shooting Edge. Their advertised prices are just too good. Justin hopes to get more Dillon stock soon. He can't confirm the pricing until the stock arrives.

I think I will go the US route for the Lock N Load. I see a price on it for $390, so even if I get dinged with a customs charge I would hope I would still be ok price wise.

This is the quote I was given by Budget Shooter for the LNL. That's shipping charge is to Southern Ontario. It's a pretty good price.

HORNADY LOCK-N-LOAD AP - $460.00
Shipping - Canpar - $26.00
Sub-Totals - $486.00
HST 13% - $63.18
Total Cart Price - $549.18

If you purchase in the US and have it shipped you'll be charged a brokerage fee and tax. You'll probably not come out too far ahead.

I have my own problems, lol. Dillon wanted over $200 just to ship to Southern Ontario + brokerage fees + tax. WoW.
 
I know that the Shooting Edge in Calgary has Dillon at great prices, I don't know if they carry Hornady, I think they do. You should check them out. I have a 550 and wished I bought the 650. Actually I am saving some cash to do just that.
 
Yeah true, the place where I am going to have it shipped from will use USPS so I hear there is a chance, (not counting on it) that it might get through without the brokerage charge.

If Henry took cc he would have my business... he has great and fair pricing and he seems like a fantastic person to do business with by just seeing the way people have spoke about him.

before you decide to wait too long ask them if they have even made the order yet. they said online the order would be in soon. when I phoned they said that the last time they ordered from dillon they had a blow up on the phone due to dillon taking half a year to ship there stock and that they are thinking of dropping dillon altogether.they were still deciding if they are even making the order. mabye they did. but if I was you I would ask is all.

this was as of about two or three weeks ago.
 
Just an update:

I purchased the Dillon XL650 (9mm) this weekend for $661.15 shipped to my home in the GTA from TSE. Justin was great! I won't hesitate doing business with them again.
